Are you sure about this? Although I haven't used the coin ones, the cash ones show instantly for me.

The coin ones don't show until they've counted up the machine at the end of the day - I don't know whose account they take it off if things don't tally though!
  • So i call action line earlier and ask about these machines, do they know where they are is my question....

Agent one tells me that they have no list, and that I should call the branches to ask. I put it to said agent that NatWest has rather more branches than I have time to be ringing, and someone in the bank must know where they are. She tells me this is not the case, but perhaps I could ring my local branch and they would advise if they had one.

Thinking I'll try again, I call back and speak to a friendly lady who tells me that coin deposit machines don't exist and that was sure I didn't mean notes? She then told me to take the coins into branch, as there was no limit to the amount of coin that I could deposit!

If anyone spots such a machine in the wild, could they post? I drive 4k miles a month, so I'll be passing.

    Cheers.
  • We've got one in Newport, Isle of Wight, but I don't suppose you'll be 'passing by' here!

Its not listed as a facility on rbs/natwest databases yet.

That's why they possibly wont know.

I'm unsure where you live however every city centre branch i've been into has one that's been birmingham, manchester, and leeds.

They would have to be in bigger branches as the machines are very bulky.

So I take it these are like the HSBC ones - where the money doesn't actually go into your account instantly?

I rather like the Halifax deposit machines, where my cash is showing straight away on online banking - but then of course there's no coin deposit on them!

That is correct - most likely the person who processes them will wait until there's loads, print off a report, and then process them at once.

We don't sit there manually counting the coins that you've paid in :p - you're given a breakdown of what you've paid in, and the total, which then get's checked off a list and paid into your account.

Remember, the CDMs are still a "new" facility, so maybe there's no "official" list of where they have been installed - yet. But that doesn't mean we can't get one going :D

We've been told aswell that they are looking to make payins go in in realtime, as they continue to develop these paying in machines. (ie money goes into your account as soon as you pay it in)
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

Just thought i'd add to this. Went in to my local branch of Natwest in Uxbridge Middx and they have installed a CDM machine. I as told by the lady in the bank that coin deposits were not available until the new year.

I know that this probably souns like a stupid question but do you have to actually count your loose change before you deposit or will you just be able to empty your loos change into the little tray and have it counted and sorted in the same way as coin star?

No you can just throw all the change in and it will count it all for you.

Then at the end it will give you a breakdown of coins deposited on the receipt.

Any rejected coins will come out at the bottom of the machine simply try and put them through again.

Spotted one today in the small town of Cosham in Portsmouth, the branch is only smallish but looks like its recently been refurbished, my local branch in waterlooville is much bigger and badly needs a refurb so i'm hoping it won't be long before we get one. Cosham is only a 10/15 minute drive for us anyway, going to take the kids back with their coins, they love putting them in the coinstar machine at asda only now they will be going into my bank account.

Portsmouth City Centre branch of Natwest in Commercial Road also has had one of these appear recently. The coin deposit facility does work on it as I tried it myself. Interestingly, said machine also had a 'coins out' slot, above the screen and presumably this will allow you to withdraw coins? I asked about this and was told that it would be a 'few months' before it would become operational.

Coin out slot is that not for rejected coins?
