3 points and £60 fine for brake lights

sebastianj wrote: »Dear all,
I hope someone can help me, I had an MoT done at the end of July, they found the break lights not working and charged me £150 for fixing it. This afternoon I was stopped by the police because my lights were not working, they have terminated my MoT as well.
Not sure what to do, I think it is a bit harsh, no warning etc. Is there any thing I can do, I have never had a ticket for over 20 years and all of a sudden this Person really shows his authority on me instead of catching some real criminal. Mind you I do believe in obeying the law which I have been doing.
Any help, advice most appreciated.
regards,
sebastian
Harsh indeed, at least on the bright side, the police are upkeeping the rule of law! :rotfl:
Points and fine cannot be changed but have a word with the garage and if need be go to Trading Standards or the like?

Coupled with the fact that there appears to be dribs and drabs of information coming out at a time, often not adding anything in the way of clarity, and we have a situation where all that's happening is people are slagging the cops off without having a full or proper understanding of what actually took place as the OP is being economic with the facts.
I havn't " slagged off the cops " all I have suggested, based on the information to hand, is that the police seemed to have acted incorrectly and that the OP seeks legal advice, I stand by that advice.0 -
Depends how far he was driving and whether night or daylight. I've seen a few people do it, and get away with it. Night time mind you is suicide. Daylight is doable, longs its not a long journey and you're going to sort it out soon.
Suppose you would extend that to drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding, and so on? Just add these caveats in eh? "Not too far, I'll make it home okay..."0 -

Here's a question:
What is the point of having speed cameras to catch people off guard when a sign is posted a few metres ahead to warn of speeding cameras? lolHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Me for one, and I do have clean driving licence as well, clearly when you get yours it will not stay clean for long.
That depends on the police officers attitude on the ocassion doesn't it?

Not really, no police officers directly involved with speed cameras, all automatic.
You will learn all of that when you take some driving lessons.
I know that... geez nevermind.
I took driving lessons AGES ago. I had to stop because of university. Started reading up on theory a wee while ago.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
