In my opinion, I think that you should have made someone aware you were leaving the premises, mainly for fire safety reasons. . .if they had you down as being in the building and the fire alarm went off you would need to be accounted for.

obviously didn’t have time to buy them between 5:30pm the day before and 11:00am the next day when it was a Sunday morning

Your not trying hard enough. My local Asda (and Tesco) close at 10pm on a saturday and open at 0930 on a Sunday.

They both sell black shoes between size 6 and 12 for adults.

You had ample opportunity to buy new shoes and escape the whole "uniform" rant on your second day.

My opinion is is that if you can't put up with this kind of epiosode at work, then you will really struggle with signing on each week at the JC and accounting for your time.

Fall into rank and get on with it. Give it a chance.

I don't even think the OP will get a second chance to be honest. What sort of impression does it give if they walk out at the first bit of criticism? Or what if they get more...will they walk out again?

OK, this is my opinion, and I dont think you will like it.

I do think you over reacted, you should just have calmly explained that you had not had a chance to get some black shoes, but that you fully intended to do so. You should not have locked yourself in the toilet nor left the premises without telling them. The Supervisor behaved in a way that lots of people with a bit of power do, or maybe she was having a bad day as the Manager stated.

Having spoken to to him, you should have pulled your self together and got on with it. Sadly, this is real life and you will not get on with everybody all the time, no one does.

I also think that your mum did you no favours by agreeing with your actions. Sometimes we can cossett our kids, and give them the expectation that others will always treat them fairly and pleasantly, this is a wrong expectation to give them. Far better to teach them to deal with such a situation and still retain a job, because wherever you go it will happen again, and you cannot keep running from it.
  • What subject is your degree in? look at it this way, once you have graduated you want have to listen to these idiots any longer in their poxy fake management jobs because you will be a trainee manager.
Maybe they didn't like you because you are an undergraduate, it does happen.
Having said all that I do agree that this behaviour is common in supervisors managers and people generally, doesn't make it right but it is the real world. My advise is suck it up and get your wage packet, move on as soon as you can and remember not to treat YOUR staff as you have been treated.

^^This. Having worked in a role where I am partly responsible for fire safety, this was a pretty daft thing to do.

Regardless, I wouldn't have walked out like that anyway. I completely agree with you in that they spoke to you inappropriately and that you shouldn't have to put up with it. But a) walking out like that doesn't leave you a leg to stand on, and b) you might have come across the worst possible employee for that company. I've worked with my company for 6 years on and off, and only within the last 6 months have I been spoken to like I am a complete moron. Everybody else I have come across has been lovely. What if you just happened to have come across the one nasty colleague you will ever have to deal with, but on your first day?

The issue with the locker is really a minor thing in the scheme of things. Yes that person shouldn't have had a go at you when it was out of your control, but I would've just taken it on the chin and seen what happened later on.

I understand your frustration, and have wanted to react in the same way as you in the past when things have happened to me. But when you sleep on it, you realise the best thing to do is talk it over properly with someone, not just walk out. I suppose it really all boils down to whether you need the money or not, but it sounds like the person having a go at you has nothing else to worry about. If you're doing a degree, you have bigger fish to fry. Forget about it and move on!

Don't bank on it. A lot of people coming out with degrees these days are at bottom level working in stores like anyone else.

    Also, it's "won't" not want.
  • Um fake, surely you could see that was a typo and not a spelling mistake? and what the heck is won't, I think you mean wont lol !!!!
