com & Electoral Roll, I traced my brother and wrote to him, which he ignored! Our Mother will be 84 in May (2010) and the last time I did meet with her noticed slight dementia setting in. I strongly believe my brother has taken her under his wing soley for the purpose of getting her Will changed to his benifit only as I know that he applied and recieved the last Will from Mum's Solicitor. Mother has a reasonable Estate when the time comes and I just know that her wishes originally would be that me & my brother should share equally the proceeds.

I would contact https://www.elderabuse.org.uk/index.htm and talk to your local Age Concern office. If your Mum is being exploited by your brother for financial reasons then it's unlikely that she is being looked after with her needs in mind.

I think you should approach https://www.elderabuse.org.uk/index.htm with worries about your Mum's care now while she is alive rather than what might happen to her money after she dies!

Absolutely. I'd have been on 'holiday' to the IOW before now to see if I could find her, but there you go.

  • Nobby1956...I have a simialr thread going at the moment...my father has recently passed away and we have discovered a HUGE amount of financial abuse on the part of this second "golddigger" wife who has cheated my sister and I out of our inheritance....go to a solicitor in the first instance and talk to them on a free half hour session to see where you stand...If your mum has lost "mental capacity" your brother would need to apply for a lasting power of attorney if he is dealing with her financial affiars. This would be registered with the Office for the Public Guardian so there can be no hokey pokey with her money, however if your brother is as devious as my fathers wife has been he will find a way round that if he can!!...
  • you should start your own thread like I did rather than encroach on this one!

Hey - just trying to get the thread back on track!

Everyone on here has been so helpful - I honestly could not have gone through all this and got the understanding and the advice elsewhere. A lot of the process I did not understand and my "friends" on here made it easier for me.

I am just grateful that I was encouraged - even though there were a couple of negative comments which will always happen with such a large forum.

I am now able to rest mentally (as this was a massive part of my life losing my father), and focus on the future with Mum and Dad clearly in mind. Every penny of what I have now inherited will be spent as mum and dad would have wanted it to.

Again, I just want to thank all the well wishers!

far - it was my pleasure if I have helped you! I feel it redresses the balance somewhat as my father in particular got nothing from his brothers' estate even though HE was the one who did the most for him. greedy younger sis and her kids got almost all of it apart from small bequests - my dad wasnt even mentioned! so as you can imagine I take an interest in cases like this - and feel sooooo much satisfaction at thwarting greedy people!!!
you enjoy the money luv, and yes, I am sure your mum and dad can rest easy now!
  • Ahem;)

I just hope that you are not as much of a selfish greedy uncaring ****** as you come across. Interesting to see what is important enough to you to make you join the forum and post.

sloughflint havent you got anything better to do than pick over what people have posted and critisise every word? Just because I said "like I did" when I meant " like i did after I was advised" you make a pathetic comment...do GROW UP!!!:p
