HI All - I have finally got my inheritance this morning. I signed a document that stated I was accepting my 1/4 share of the estate based on the accounts in front of me and subject to their being any "unknown" investments, I would be entitled to receive a 1/4 share of that also.

I just wanted to say thank you so much to all who have helped me!

I can now move on with my life and rest my brain!

Thank you thank you thank you again xxx

  • Hi, I read your story with interest as I think this may happen to me. I am 53yrs of age and have a brother of 57, our father sadly died in 1995 leaving our mother on her own. I took it upon myself to visit her quite regularly as my brother was living much further away from her and I used to take her out in y car to the town for her weekly shpping etc. Mum and I have always been close but, after my divorce she became more 'distant' from me and without any notice to me or her friends, sold up and moved! Not knowing where she had moved to, I visited her last known address to ask around but to no avail. It came to light, that my brother, had persuaded her to move to the Isle of Wight near or even with him & his wife without telling me. Through 192.com & Electoral Roll, I traced my brother and wrote to him, which he ignored! Our Mother will be 84 in May (2010) and the last time I did meet with her noticed slight dementia setting in. I strongly believe my brother has taken her under his wing soley for the purpose of getting her Will changed to his benifit only as I know that he applied and recieved the last Will from Mum's Solicitor. Mother has a reasonable Estate when the time comes and I just know that her wishes originally would be that me & my brother should share equally the proceeds. I have tried to understand the law on this matter but it does get very confusing but as I believe our Mother is still alive I dont have any proof as to what my brother has in mind. I do not even know if he would bother to contact me in the event of her passing.
It seems to me that you and I have been, or in my case, will be, forceably 'estranged' by greedy relatives. I have learnt one fact, in the event of a death, the person acting in the interest of what they think should be rightfully thiers, has only six months from Probate to act on it. That could be a problem for me if I am not informed!! I just hope my brother is not that much of a selfish greedy ******* to think he can get away with it as I will fight it. What has happened to your case if anything?

Thanks Daska and Tandraig - honestly you have been SO SO helpful throughout all of this. You have guided me where I needed guiding and it just shows that bully siblings don't always get their way!

As you said Tandraig - I am more happy about the fact that in the eyes of the law I was and am an equal daughter. Mum and Dad can now rest in peace knowing that THEIR wishes have been carried out.

Needless to say - that is the end of the relationship with my siblings but that is better for me in the long run as I don't want to be around or influenced by people like that.
