Question about missing Gcse Exams for holiday
Comments
-
I don't think taking children out of school for holidays is a big deal. I think going to another place is a geat learning experience. I think any child that can't cope with missing a fortnight's school is never going to be academically brilliant.
BUT... I really, really don't think that anyone should consider organising a wedding or a holiday during GCSE exam time, or indeed the six to eight weeks before. I would say that termtime over the last year of GCSE's, any parent's priority should be getting a young person to school and studying as hard as possible.
Find out when the last exam is - probably before the end of term and look at going then or the following October maybe?0 -
I don't think disney would be a problem for a fair skinned child. As it is hotter there all year round they are set up for it. He is less likely to burn than he would be at alton towers as all the queues have shade and often cool mist.
Go in July, make sure that the kids have suitable clothing and buy P20 suncream that stays on all day. My very fair ex managed Egypt in July without burning, and it is hotter there than florida!
I'd suggest looking for "travel clothing" in Cotswold catalogue or a similar outdoor clothing manufacturer. They make clothing with inbuilt sun protection that is lightweight breathable and fast drying. Get long sleeves, and a wide brimmed hat.
Oh and drink lots of water.0 -
I hate humidity and long heat/sun exposure (I am dark haired but have very fair skin that loves to burn!) and have been to Florida twice during high summer when I was young. I get pretty ratty and have a short fuse in the sun but was fine in Florida, plenty of water/shade around in the parks, no heatstroke/fainting at all. I sound like a right barrel of laughs don't I? Lol. I'm sure your fair skinned traveller will be fine if planned well. There will not be much heat difference between mid summer and June anyway. There is a gift shop every 3m (or so it seems!) and they are air conditioned so great for any stragglers to spend 5 minutes cooling off in (which will more than likely be the parents, not the fair skinned child!).
Don't let him miss his exams...it is so easy to fall behind, lose interest and end up muddling through life. It is also a bad example for the two the year on who won't fancy doing their exams then either!0
