  • Don't know whether they still send someone round; but they certainly used to. My Dad had a part-time job every year for about 5 years, doing just that - handing the form in person, and waiting while it was filled in. He had to go 3 times before giving up if he couldn't catch anyone in.

Can you ask him if anyone has ever refused to complete the form, please? And if yes what happened next.
  • It's true! My neighbour didn't fill one in last year and I could hear them arguing with the bloke that had been sent around who was asking them to fill it in whilst he waited.

Funny! Do you know/remember how did it end up?

Sorry, but no - he died a few years ago! He was nearly attacked by various dogs/burly blokes/feral kids on his rounds though:cool:

I feel my original query has been sort of skipped: I asked: do they really have the legal rights of sending the police at our address and arrest anyone found living there as we did not complete that form? In other words is there a written law which obliges non-British citizens residents to complete the form? Or what I read in the form is untrue?

I have noticed that public bodies and such have also the unhealthy habit of threaten citizens with easiness. That's why i don't take that sentence that seriously.

Having reread your original question, you didn't ask that at all. You merely asked if you have to give them all your data, which was answered by the first two or three respondents.

If you choose to live in Britain (or anywhere else for that matter) why can't you follow the rules? Under the present circumstances (with terrorism and the like) it makes sense that we know who is living among us, don't you think?
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • And why do you refer to it as the "infamous electoral role form"? Most of us are quite proud of living in a democratic society.

I'm "non british" and I am on it and it states on there clearly that I am not UK. As far as I am concerned the rules of this country states I have to provide this information so because I chose to live here I obide by those rules. There are many other countried I'd love to live in but where I don't agree with the rules and laws and so... I have no intention of moving there.

Do you have to? Probably. Is it law? Possibly. Bear in mind that unlike a UK citizen you COULD in theory still be removed from the UK if someone decided to make an example of you - even if you don't need a visa and would normally have every right to be here.
Why on earth would you want to risk that?

  • Yes you do have to complete and return it - all you need to do is sign it and return it, it doesn't even need a stamp. I have been out today delivering reminder forms for those that haven't completed the first form and I will be back in a few weeks time knocking on people's doors asking them to complete the form if they haven't already done so!

And yes, we have been told that people will be fined £1000 if they don't complete it. I don't see what the problem is to be honest - the majority of forms have the names of residents already supplied, just sign it and return it ......

Yes, you're registered as living at the specific address, so if you move next year, you'll have to fill in the forms again (as far as I know anyway).
