I have been making my own lunch for a couple of months now - you soon get used to it. One day last week, I didn't take any, and then I couldn't find any sandwiches I like the look of (all soggy and yuk) in the shops, so I ended up buying fresh bread and stuff to make a sandwich in back in the office - and then took the rest home to make lunch the next day!

I am hoping to take brocoli soup tomorrow - but need to find a recipe for it first as I have loads of brocoli in the fridge!

I have to say I have been taking home made lunch into work since I started to be honest.

It was always what my dad did, and I thought nothing of it.

I have to say, the best decision we made was to buy a panasonic SD253 breadmaker, as the bread you get out is very tasty, and probably no more expensive all in, assuming your not buying the bargain bread in Tesco.

I take 4 slices to work, and have one with something cheapish, such as Sandwich spread, or the sandwich pastes, and one with something more interesting, such as Ham/Chicken/Cheese etc etc
We sometimes make a Tuna mix (onions and or sweetcorn/mayonnaise etc) or egg mayonnaise is very nice and cheap.

Something else my OH does is buy some wraps (not that cheap0 and fill them with roasted vegetables and houmous, now that is VERY tasty.

I get hungry too, so I take breakfast into work, and eat it about 9.30, then mid morning I have a packet of crisps (I'm a stickler for walkers, so buy the 24 packs = roughly 10p a pack) have lunch about 1 or 2, then have a cereal bar for dessert, and then I have a clementine/satsuma and a banana before I go home - I kind of graze :-)

I know the breadmaker is £80, but if your serious about taking sandwiches reguarly, it could well make sense, as if you get bored and start buying stuff again, it would have already paid for itself.

    Cheers

I don’t eat fish, cheese, mayo or butter so I have always had to bring in food from home because when I started working they didn’t do special sandwiches for fussy eaters!

I find it saves you so much money and it's good for you!

I started with ham salad rolls, crisps and yoghurt with maybe a penguin or small choc bar. Then I moved on to tinned soup, I then started making my own soups and bringing them in.

Now I bring in loads of different things so I don’t get bored. Try:

Tortilla wraps filled with houmous and roasted peppers or cooked chicken or turkey. Bulk out with salad, use mayo/mustard/salad dressing/coleslaw to add flavour. I really like tzatziki and salad in tortilla wraps.

It’s a bit of a running joke in my house now that I will wrap up anything in a tortilla and take it to work! Try leftovers from your roast dinner with mustard or leftover curry and natural yoghurt.

A packet of bagels, a packet of ham and some mustard will last you a whole week - again bulk out with salad - and it doesn’t have to be really boring salad either! Get nice lettuce and mix coleslaw with tinned sweetcorn and red onion. Try different hams like pastrami and salami - who needs bagel factory?!?!?!?!

Have cup a soups, cereal bars and those options hot choc sachets with you for something extra - stops you going to the shop.

I always have fruit with me as well to snack on, but that’s because I am always on a diet.

If its cold out, I bring in a ready meal from home and have it with salad to fill me up. Or I bring in leftovers from the night before.

If you want any more tips/recipes pleae PM me. I love talking about food!

    :)

    Hi,

You've got loads of good suggestions here already like pasta and stuff. A packet of crisps a day isn't very good for you tho (I'm a dietician). You can make your own crisps with vegetables. Bit of work but...
Parsnips, sweet potatoes or anything else you fancy use a peeler to get really thin slices then stick them on an oven tray until they go crispy.
Take them to work instead, it will really impress your coleagues!

    Thanks

On the "wrap" theme, I made up a load of turkey & veg enchiladas ( man, they were gooood) and did the spare filling in a seperate little pyrex. We gaffer-taped the lid on LOL & OH took it to work & microwaved it and said it was tremendous
