If you make a big batch of pasta salad how long does it keep for in the fridge?

Im more intested in meaty type sandwiches (ill fill up on these) with maybe a yougurt or packet of crisps/fruit for pudding

I have done pasta before (which ive done for other people) and they are still breathing, so tuna pasta bakes are doable, and would probably last me a whole week (although that would probably be boring)

I would definitely say keep varying your menu slightly, otherwise it gets very boring. I would say if you're cooking pasta or rice one evening, cook extra and take it for lunch the next day. The day after have something else or lunch just becomes a chore!

I swap between rolls/baguettes/bread and try and vary the fillings each day. My favourites are ham, cheese, chicken or turkey. I would agree with someone else above who said if you want cucumber, to take it seperately and put it on the sandwich just before you eat it or it goes horribly soggy!

Also, if you run out of fillings, never ever use honey or jam as this just soaks into the bread and is vile by lunchtime (again, unless you take the whole jar to work and make it up just before you eat it.)

Good luck in your sandwich quest!

I take a fruit tub & veggie tub every day to work - I use the plastic takeaway cartons from the local chinese (very useful!) and fill the veggie tub with chopped carrots, celery, cucumber, tomato etc (whatever I have in) and the fruit tub has melon, strawberries, kiwi fruit, grapes etc. Very healthy and tasty.

I usually take a sandwich and a cup a soup too, along with a banana and a little tub of mixed nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, cashews and pistachios), seeds (pumpkin & sunflower) and dried fruit (cranberries, blueberries, raisins etc). I do have an appetite during the day so I do take plenty of (healthy) food with me, especially as I'm 7 months pg and am permanantly peckish!

This still works out cheaper than buying a lunch at work.

Pitta bread travels well too - no butter or spread required - well not for me anyway. Fill with plenty of salad and whatever else you fancy, meat, cheese etc and you'll have to open really wide to get it in!! A piece of fruit cake might do down well - cheap enuf to make yourself and cut into pieces and freeze. Nice n filling for big eaters, as my boys are!! Yummy yummy in my tummy!!

Meat - from Sunday leftovers: chicken with mayo

Add some curry powder too with maybe a few sultanas & a bit of onion - delicious! Works with beef & lamb too.

Every couple of weeks I'll pop to the local supermarket (Sainsburies) and get a box of noodles. 8p a packet!! I usually buy a box or a couple of boxes at a time depending on how much drawer space I have. I admit, they're a bit bland (they only seem to do chicken flavour) but I also buy a bottle of lea & perrins sauce to splash on there.

Also stock up on tinned fish. can manage quite well on a tin of mackerel and a couple of packs of noodles a day thank you very much. Stinks the office out mind you, and I always seem to get the same checkout girl who sees me coming through each time with 48 packets of noodles and 24 tins of mackerel...no doubt she thinks I have some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder.

"Linda" from sainsburies, if you're reading this, all is now hopefully explained...

My idea was sabotaged, my nan said to use all the stuff in the house already, she has a point saying that it probably would get used other wise

So I should save 12.50 a week which will total 300 quid over the next 6 months, so thats an incentive

I know i should have done this ages ago, but i wanted my treat, but in fairness the food in the canteen is rubbish and an incident thursday where they tried to rip me off was he last straw

What I used to take and is very nice is cooked brown rice with cubes of cheddar cheese and chopped salad bits like celery, iceberg letter, green pepper and cucumber. Its very nutritious and has a lovely nutty taste. You can vary it by adding chopped ham or chicken but I prefer the cheese.
