Advice appreciated from helpful dressmaker please?Linda?
My dress is Mori lee 230(purple)
    http://www.morilee.com/DressDetail.aspx?C=3&D=230&P=1
So do I need to get a corset which is staight across too rather than sweetheart shape for this style?
The taffeta in the dress is quite thick but would it be okay to get maybe a black corset if I cannot find one in purple? It wouldnt show through would it?
Found a couple on ebay which say they are steel frames but they are really cheap.Do these look okay?http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/CORSETS-BOULEVARD-LTD_UK-Size-22_purple_W0QQ_fsubZ16459169QQ_sidZ304763397QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

Have you tried a proper corset on before? I know from others on here & a friend I saw in the flesh that that if you are blessed in the boobage dept, a corset pushes everything upwards my friend could almost rest her chin on her boobs when she sat down. It doesn't support like a bra would so if you are after a heaving bosom look go for it. If not have a think about a strapless bra what about this one goddess are a great make for larger busts. I know it doesn't look anything like as gorgeous as the corsetsbut the longerline will pull you in a bit & your slicker knicker pants will help too. hth

Told you!!. I have now decided to not waste another second on trying to help you. Too many times I have seen you ignore mine & other peoples responses, even if it is not the reply you have wanted, people take time out to help you, a simple thanks would at least acknowledge that.
    Next time use Google yourself.

I think you defo need to try these on. A sewing and facebook friend is a corset maker and I'm going to see what advice she can give regarding corsets. Violetta is right in suggesting anyone try a steel boned corset on before they decide. They are very different to the "underwear" types in stores. The undie types can hold you in and give you support, reducing your waist between 1 and 2 cm (I think) Steel boned can reduce your waist up to 1-1.5" (I think)

My concerns would be the shape of the top and it's height over the dress (Nat's problem) Fab dress by the way.
    Black would be perfectly ok.
Straight or shaped depending on it's height at the front.
  • Hi peeps,

I am so sorry to hijack this thread, I need urgent help and not sure if this will be ok.

I ned steel boned, i am a plus size and need sucking in. Was going to go for Gok Wans mini Sex Kitten Corset, but found this on a "naughty" site. They have it in my size, but does anyone know a) if this will potentially work, and b) is it too pinstriped for a wedding dress from Landy?

They only have a few left and it would need to be retuned before my dress arrives - EEEK I'm having a bridezilla moment :D
  • I asked the question and this is what has come back. Her words.

"The steel boned corsets on ebay are (usually) made in China and are cheap and nasty! The only way to get a good fit on a steel boned corset is to either have one made (and fitted) for you, or make one yourself. Factory made corsets worn as underwear with the aim of reducing size will be terribly uncomfortable as they are made to standard sizes. (The ones I have seen on ebay seem to be aimed at the 'alternative' market and not designed to be worn as underwear). If wearing under a wedding dress, then it is best to buy a dress with an incorporated corselet, or as you say, wear a proper underwear basque underneath (this will not reduce size). A proper corset for the modern figure will give a better sillouhette by reducing waist size but not necessarily decrease overall size in order to fit into a smaller dress! All that will happen is the '6 boob factor' where the corset pushes everything up (and over!) .. not very attractive. An underbust corset or a waist cincher may be the answer, but again, best to buy one from a proper underwear retailer (they are not cheap), have one made, or make one yourself. The other thing would be to have a corset design incorporated into the dress itself.."

I hope this sheds some light.

Hi Littlemadam, I honestly don't know the answer to your question but I think it's waist size in inches rather than dress size, I may be totally wrong but you best check as these things are often non returnable. Looking at the other corsets the sizes range from 20 to 36 so I think I might be right.

I have one similar to this but without moulded cups, i'm a 38GG and it holds me firm!
  • Hi I am quite opposite and unfortunately have lost everything in the boob department , the downside to dieting!! Does anyone know the best place for a 32-34 A corset with plenty of padding or should i just stick the chicken fillet things down (which i'd rather not).
