    As stated by Marty J
10p per minute daytime and 8p per minute in the evening, plus a 7p connection charge

Even BT would have charged you less than that ;)

Virgin are now the most expensive of the landline providers for calls to 0870 numbers.

BT are cheapest for 0870 calls weekday evenings (when they charge 6p connection + 1½p/minute).

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

A search of Saynoto0870 for Paypal says that you can call 020 86053000 and select option 1 for customer services.

I believe that 18185 is one of the cheapest providers from your Virgin Media line at 5 pence per minute. See here. You will need to call via the number 0808 1 703 703.

Due to essential maintenance and hardware upgrades the SAYNOTO0870.COM website is currently unavailable.

Hopefully the work should be completed in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

This is essential in order to improve reliability, and offer a stable and reliable service.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

I run a number of 0800 information lines. They direct to a voicemail so customers can leave a message which I pick up later.

These cost the company, but I feel it's important for such a service to be offered to my customers. However, I was wondering if it would be better to go to 03 numbers, given than 0800 numbers aren't included in bundles?

Thing is, I know some people only have mobiles, but the majority of people have access to a landline either at work or at home, so could use the 0800 there. Also, changing to 03 will cost the caller money (or bundled minutes) either way.

I'm also worried that not everyone will recognise an 03 number and may think it's a premium line.

What do you think? should I switch? I'm having to think about the public at large here, not just us moneysavers!

If you want to offer you customers a free service then stick with 0800. Not everyone has free / bundled minutes. Those with mobiles can always use a public phone box (if you can find one!), if they don't have a landline.

If you buy a computer, Ebuyer offers a £50 support product free of charge, providing 24/7 support for one week. Their product code is 138564. Ebuyer call this their Home IT HelpDesk. After purchase they send you the telephone number by email, beginning with 0870, and tell you it costs 1p per minute. I complained about this, and asked that they provide a freephone number for this £50 product instead of an expensive 0870 number.

Ebuyer refused and insist the 0870 number costs 1p per minute because that's what they agreed with their partner providing the service, who appear to be The Home IT Helpdesk Ltd. Has anyone had experience of this company and know what type of number they normally require customers to use?

I know 0870 prices are in flux, but I do think Ebuyer is at fault here. I suspect that 1p per minute is more likely to be the kickback that Ebuyer are getting. I also note that this service is provided by allowing the support company to take over your PC. I would never allow that.

Can anyone suggest a course of action?
