Friends?

  • I have a few good friends, and a lot of acquaintances :D

When i was growing up i was told that as you get older you will be able to count your friends on one hand and anybody else will just be someone you know. How true was that! :p

What does concern me is all the posters above stating that their OH is their best friend and they dont have anybody else. What would you do if the relationship ended  If you dont have anybody else then how would you cope with rebuilding your life over again?

Heaven forbid it does happen to any of you :o Im just thinking of the 'what ifs'.
  • I moved to the town where OH is from and have no friends here :-(

Me too, What we do for men eh :p
  • I have no friends as such - there is my OH who is my night and day, my sister who I am close to and that is it.

My best friend ever is a school friend who whenever we get together it is like no time has passed but our lives are in different parts of the world and we only seem to collide every 5 to 10 years. I miss her so much but accept that we have different lives and trying to maintain anything more than the occassional email is difficult for her. She was always the more bubbly and confident of the 2 of us so she has many many friends and is loved by many.

I used to find making friends easy but as time has gone on I find that I end up being friends with people who are all about them and their world (my sister is a bit like this too).

I have loads of acquaintances but I have no one for that middle of the night crisis phone call or the one who would drive 200 miles to pick you up cos you broke down - you know the one who would move heaven and earth for you without a thought. The worst thing is I am that kind of friend - I would do anything for anyone - but have a tendancy to be walked over.

  • Three really close friends: one lives in the USA who I've been best pals with for over 40 years, one pal who now lives in a different city and who now has a husband, three children and a busy career so we don't see each other as much as I'd like and another who is drifting out of my life after 20 years since her circumstances have changed radically after she met a new man. Kind of sad, really.

I do know lots of other people who I consider friends as we have a common interest but they're not close but that might change, who knows?
  • I have 3 close friends and 1 friend (met through OH) who I think (/hope) will be a close friend soon.

My OH is my best friend - we've known each other 8 years and were best friends before we started going out. I know that we'll always be close friends even if we break up (unless it's a particularly messy break up!).

I'm also close to my mum (who I live practically next door to, how sad!) and a friend who I've known for 20+ years. She moved away 6 years ago but we still keep in touch and see each other every birthday, Easter and Christmas.

I've never had many friends and don't feel the need. I'd much rather have a couple of really close friends than be forced to hang out with people who I don't particularly know or like very much!

I know this sounds like a bit of a nosy, and perhaps not very nice, question, so I'll apologise in advance, and understand if people get upset with me asking it.

    But....

To those of you who have no other friends apart from your husbands/wives etc...

Do you not feel that you're putting your 'eggs all in one basket' so to speak? When (again, sorry about this) the 'inevitable' happens, you'll be left with no one. Surely it's better not to rely on only one person for everything?
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

    *I have done reading too*
*I have done geography as well*

i think its important to have "other" friends but i have to say, im quite ashamed after reading some of these posts about OH and best friend. I love my OH, we've had our problems recently but i know i couldnt talk to him about "anything" and i think its quite sad lol I kinda envy them
