If there's room for 2 then yes, move over. If not, then whoevers side of the road has the obstruction on should be the one giving way.

yes thats what should happen but not everyone abides by it,

so why not overtake them and do what they can't to show them how it's done, or quit moaning, lol!

I am not in the habit of overtaking when there is something coming towards me and I would meet them head on.

I get the feeling some of you feel we should all be hugging the pavement while driving as to not inconvenience oncoming cars! My point isn't when there's bags of room, it's when the car with right of way has to slow down to accommodate the oncoming traffic, who himself now takes up part of my side of the road (plus a little space between his car and the parked one). Enough room for two cars, but not enough room for a car and bus to pass - that sort of space.

And I do realise there's two camps of thought here - as half of you are the people actually doing it!!

I think if there is room for 2 cars to get through, then you should be anticipating and already be "hugging the pavement" to allow the free movement of traffic.

That is what bugs me, the lack of forward thinking/anticipating from other drivers.
  • It's simple really. If you had enough time to panic, hit your brakes and steer towards the kerb (without hitting it) you were too far towards the middle of the road.
  • I also think that if there's enough room for two then it's fine. A lot of the time in my experience the other person is an extremely bad judge and swings out right round the parked cars meaning I have to stop/crawl.

Most of the time though if I see someone do that i'll do the exact same, you soon see them move over!
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

I have a road like that near me, and the number of people who dont seem to have any concept of the actual size of their vehicle is amazing.
Usually they are driving micra sized cars, the larger cars dont seem to have the same issues.

You'll have to drive round here then. The local council changed all our cobble edged pavements to hard, sharp, granite blocks, as all the "pavement huggers" used to drive up them, then down the pavement as well. Now if you clip it, it'll take lumps out of the alloys, shred your tyres, or rip off your plastic trims. I won't pull into the gutter, but then I wouldn't before either.
  • a woman coming towards me on a tight country road who was clearly well over into my side of the road expected me to stop and pull in just so she could keep going without stopping,so i kept my course and speed until she had to slam on the brakes and vere over to the left back to her side of the road,i could see her start to shout what i imagine to be some kind of abuse towards me,it was all very entertaining.

Similarly. I've been going down a country lane, no centre lane markings but just about wide enough for two cars if you are careful. I'm doing about 40mph, car is approaching me and I see there's just about enough room to I continue my same course and speed.

The approaching driver just as we are about to pass freaks out and flashes her lights and sounds her horn, yet I drive straight past..
