This week I'm making Thai Green Curry, Chicken Casserole, Beef Stew and Sausage Casserole in my slow cooker this week.

Slow cookers are useful for cooking soups, stews, casseroles etc. without having to attend to them and are cheaper to run than an oven. I also make yoghurt and cook rice in mine. They're also good for cooking joints/chicken etc. and for making stock.

I never bother making stock with leftover bones etc, would take up freezer space, I'd rather bung an oxo in!

I'm going to try salmon rissoto and perhaps the irish beef recipe. I just need some juniper berries.

May I ask what a slow cooker is useful for and anywhere I could get some recipe tips?

I've heard about them, but know very little and would like to expand my culinary skills and impress my girls ;)

bung everything in first thing ready by tea time.

yesterday I did beef casserole & beef madras, gonna do chicken tikka, chill, bolganese.

u could do soup, roasts - theres a whole thread of ideas on OS board

reckon that 3.3l would do all of u for one meal. my 1.8l did 4 meals

I mainly keep mine in the fridge and try to use it so that I don't build up huge stocks. (Mind you this is probably one reason why I need a bigger fridge.) I do it for the nutritional value rather than the moneysaving.

ETA: You can also reduce it down significantly if you want to make it take up less space.

How do you make your own stock? Just throw the chicken carcas in and boil it to bu99ery? Or do you need to add copious amounts of salt to it?
