Elle, I have a dinky baby (if nobody else contacts you) .... I also have a mountain of size 1 & 2 nappies that I stockpiled early on in the pregnancy, so I'm not desperate, just willing to take them off your hands!

Tia, that article makes total sense to me, but then I haven't had to be in the room with a crying baby yet :D I shall try it out when Andrew gets home.

I'm :j :j :j :j :j right now, as the nurses say that I can try putting Andrew onto the boobie for the first time tomorrow! Though how his little mouth is going to cope with my (seemingly enormous) nips I don't know :rotfl:

Tigs, have you heard Andrew cry yet? We only heard Rhys a few times and they were tiny mouse-like squeaks.. It was only once he came home that he started belting them out!

Fab news on getting ya boobs out! :p :rotfl: Peace and quiet is your best bet.. There was another mum trying it in the same room as me at the same time, but her baby took to it really well and I had to listen to their nurse being all encouraging when Rhys wasn't getting it. Obviously had to remind myself hers was a twin who'd been born only hours earlier by planned c-section and he was absolutely fine etc etc but it would have been nicer to have been in a quieter room or at a different time.
  • Ohh how exciting Tigs, bet you cant wait !!

The 2 mums that were trying it when Dylan was in didnt even get a curtain or anything round them. The first day Chris was in on his own, he was sitting in a room with 2 women who were encouraged to sit topless to allow maximum skin to skin !! He say with his back to them, but I thought that was a bit much !!

I must admit I'm a !!!!!! for just closing the curtains around Andrew when I'm ready to express - I always leave a six-inch gap on a corner so that the nurses can look into to see his monitor - but I never ask permission, I just close them and then spark up the noisy milking machine! So I shall be ensuring the curtains are closed before making any attempt at feeding. I won't be able to take him to a private room because of all the leads, but the Baby Room is pretty quiet (only 6 babies) and only tends to have one other visitor early afternoon when we're there.

Elle, yes we've heard Andrew's cry, and he's got a good set of lungs for a tiny thing! He's cried a few times, even when I've been cuddling him - hence my interest in the article Tia posted, because all his wants are pretty much fulfilled in SCBU, I suspect much of his crying is simply stress.

Oh Tigs, what they don't seem to tell you is that after a few weeks the huge nips shrink back down to a more normal size ;) Why did nobody ever tell me that? I spent weeks (well, counting it up with the 3 of them) thinking that my nips would always be a choking hazard to them! And that my boob wouldn't suffocate them, they really do move their heads back if you let them.

Actually I was soooo clueless with the boys when I think about it
