  • just be careful em ;) I gave up when pregnant this time and was off them for 8 weeks after Dylan was born other than 2 the day we spoke to the consultant !! Then I went out for a drink and had a few, then had a drink at home the next night and had a few more and slowly over the last 7 weeks have managed to become a smoker again :( I am only having two or three a day which is a million times better than my 20 a day before, but I just cant seem to find the will power to do it again ! Give it time, I will succeed again :)

But can someone give me some words of encouragement please? I havnt smoked for over 2 years and through one thing and another I have been majorly stressed out over the last week or so and Im so close to breaking!!! I dont want to but Im finding it increasingly tempting and even qued at the kiosk in Asda yesterday but pulled myself together before I did it!
I just feel like crying, I know I am being pathetic but I havnt been this stressed in a long time HeLp xxx
You need something else to do that helps you deal with the stress/distracts you from smoking.

Is first weaning food always baby rice?
No. According to someone I read (although I'm afraid I can't remember the source) it isn't a very good thing to give as a first food as it is starch which is metabolised very quickly giving the baby a sugar rush. Apparently it was introduced when babies were supposed to be weaned very early because it is easy to fortify with iron. Apparently it can also be very constipating.

I had Amber weighed and I'm feeling a bit upset. She is 7lb6oz in just her vest. 3 weeks ago she was 7lb7oz dressed. Now I weighed the dress and tights that she wore last time (5.5oz) and a nappy is 1oz dry, so say 2oz wet (which it was) so we can say that 3 weeks ago she was 16lb15.5oz.

    Birth - 6lb15oz
    1 week - 6lb10oz
    3 week - 6lb10oz
    4 week - 6lb15.5oz (aprox)
    7 week - 7lb6oz

So she is now on the 9th percentile (taking into account that she was born at 37 weeks). I feel like I am starving my baby! The HV at that clinic is really nice (a lot nicer than my own) but it's still 'feed her as often as you can' which I do, I can't force her to eat!

speaking of OH, i'd love to know where he is with my son actually, i went out for the interview at midday and when i got back there was a note saying "mummy, daddy has taken me out to buy me some presents, see you soon, love seth xxx" :rotfl: he is so advanced!!
i have had a picture message sent of him clutching a rusk in his buggy and a great deal of mess  daddy can clean that mess, methinks!

.. Are there any special requirements for weaning Rhys or is it just as you would with any other baby?

I don't think that there were any weaning foods in the baby event.

We didn't go into that much detail - get next week out the way then we'll talk about it - but I think we might have to avoid bananas and other high potassium foods as Rhys' potassium levels have always been an issue. Sodium is an issue, but I guess all baby foods have to be low/no sodium anyway. I'll go reading the packets next time I'm in Tesco! ;) We do have a sample of banana porridge here so will use that as a taster before I go buying boxes of it.

Apparently the window of opportunity for weaning is five to seven months, so they want to start Rhys as early as possible in case he has issues like he did taking to bottle feeding - ie he could always swallow but couldn't suck and needed teaching to suck, so he might need extra teaching to chew as well, iyswim :)
    .. I hope I have been missed!

    Of course! ;)

As has r.mac and feelie.. where are you both? :(

Was that today or yesterday ?

Today :D Ticketed at the baby isle as £7.50 from £10, scanning at £5. Loads left at my store so if you need them and there is none at your store, gimme a yell.

Moving, eating babies are much harder work than sleeping, booby feeding ones :D

The baby stage is easy! (unless you get a non-sleeping one) It's once they get locomotive that the trouble starts, and it just gets worse, wait till you get a NO! yelling toddler running about with a crayon!

I wonder if that (fortified with iron) is why it's pushed by HV so much? Must bear that in mind (sugar rush).

Oh hun ((hugs)) If she is eating when she wants, then she will be fine. She might just be a small baby, and dont forget not all scales are the same :o

Em - yeah OH smokes, so I think thats what helped me along the wrong path :( He wants to quit too, just neither one of us is very good at sticking to things :o We will get there
