Does nobody just use a normal blanket or sheet to swaddle? I'm way too tight to but one of those swaddle blankets.
    I just used a sheet.

I watched it the other day ... She's crazy all right sometimes just having one is enough but 14!!!
Apparently she had eight embryos transferred all the other times too though and just had twins once and single babies the other times so she wasn't exactly intending/expecting eight.
Hi all, looking for inspiration for presents for Poppy who will be two very soon . Family have asked me for a wishlist and I'm struggling!
Books and art/craft supplies things. The art and craft stuff will get used up and books are always a good thing.

Elijah just made me a card for my birthday, that was fine :) perhaps I have low expectations!
That's all Alice does for us for birthdays. (Although she's starting to know/understand about presents so she may want to give OH a present next month.)

After Fergie I put him to the breast about 10 times with gritted teeth, determined to try for his sake, but I was so struggling that I would immediately unintentionally stiffen and push him away. The gas and air that got me through labour didn't help (the midwives knew and let me try it) He'd then cry, I'd cry.... DH joined in... :)
 I struggled with getting through the pain of temporary soreness which didn't start until day 3. There's no way I could have considered continuing if it had been a permanent thing. I even feel a bit  thinking about the fact that I'll probably have to go through that painful stage next time.
very doable .... zoe eat pretty much what we eat apart from the things she dont like .... starting from next pay its all getting sorted ........ ooooo baby porridge can you make your own??? x
We just gave Alice regular porridge.

SM baby food is easy! Just normal food with no salt/sugar pur!ed or mashed :) try a Anabel karmel site for specific recipies or go for blw I think susan recommends the blw yahoo group x
Yes - the Yahoo group was the easiest place to find all the information and because it's a group, you can ask questions and you get to hear about how other people are getting on.
sorry two more question is ham shank say mixed with mash blended ok or is ham shank to salty?
As long as it's only occasional small amounts I would have thought it was okay.
ooooooooooo fruit ....... like apples or pears you know anything acidy really how do i get round that x
We mixed pureed pear and apple in porridge but we didn't do anything special to it - just cooked it and blended it.

Heya ladies/gents hope you don't mind me popping in from the pregnancy thread, I was just wondering if any of you use re usable wipes? OH has agreed we can give these a go, am debating do I use ready made ones or should I be really MSE and make my own. I like the look of the Cheeky Wipes hasd any one used these? Also any tips would be fab, thanks xx
We just bought a load of cheap flannels from ikea (I think it was 99p for a pack of 10). They're white but have different coloured loops on them for hanging (two each of five different colours) so we did one for bathing, one for meals and the rest for bottoms (we bought five packs so it was 10, 10 and 30). In the early days when we had more poos (and I also used cotton wool) I used to have a tub of water in the bathroom to dip them in but eventually I stopped and just run them under the tap if I need one. I also bought some hooks on rubber suckers to hang them on (within reach) in the bathroom but they hardly cost anything. We don't use that many now so most of them are packed away but it did make our bathroom look a bit like a flannel shop. I didn't bother using them when out though as it didn't seem worth the effort as you either have to have water with you or take damp flannels and I knew we would end up leaving damp flannels to go mouldy.
:kisses3: Now I just need to convince OH it's worth buying.

ETA: :j OH is picking it up from Sunderland on his way home because it's OOS in Durham.

ham hock I'd avoid until 9mths ish and keep to no more than 3 meals a week (that's what my HV suggested for anything made with oxo cubes when i asked)
incidentally I no longer use salty oxo cubes I use Kallo Organic ones that are very low salt (obv you could make ur own stock) boots do 'baby stock cubes' and cow n gate make sachets of stock too not sure about them as not checked the labels on them
If you get a slow cooker then making stock is practically no work. I usually cook the meat in the slow cooker then when OH has carved it, I throw all the bones in, add a splash of vinegar and put a load of water in then leave it on low overnight. Next day I strain it then put it either in jars in the fridge or tubs in the freezer.

My problem now is that I can't find my counterpart driving licence after the house move  and I have 7 days to present it at a police station... don't know what happens if I fail to but I am sure it is bad!
I'd pop in ASAP to ask/let them know you're having problems finding it. They're likely to be more sympathetic if you tell them in advance rather than waiting until the last minute.
im just having my breakfast after tidying now just deciding if i have enough time to go town and back and what to do with 17 eggs before the 2nd of oct  x
Omlettes, scrambled egg, egg fried rice, eggy bread, mayonaise, pancakes. Also, you can boil them and they'll still do for sandwiches for a whiel after they're cooked.
weezl when you hop on (or anyone really) ive been reading the ingreidents in baby food .......... it always has ground rice ....... is that normal rice ground down for bubbas or different kind x
They put the ground rice in as a filler to make it cheaper - you don't really need it if you're making your own.

elle we gave seth baby rice and he spat it back out at me so i thought he wasnt ready, but then i tried him with banana porridge and he gobbled it, i think he just hated baby rice

the baby whisperer book recommends pureed apples and pears to start as they are very unlikely to cause a reaction.

ETA when i make seths purees i chuck a handful or two of rice in while the veg is cooking then puree it all together, much more MSE :money: i've also chucked in some pasta and lentils but the pasta didnt puree enough, next time i'll follow weezl's idea and overcook it before i try :)

But can someone give me some words of encouragement please? I havnt smoked for over 2 years and through one thing and another I have been majorly stressed out over the last week or so and Im so close to breaking!!! I dont want to but Im finding it increasingly tempting and even qued at the kiosk in Asda yesterday but pulled myself together before I did it!
I just feel like crying, I know I am being pathetic but I havnt been this stressed in a long time HeLp xxx

I quit on the 15th March 2001 (pregnant with DS1) and then suddenly when he was about 2 years old I started again for 3 days (had 10 cigs in that time). Then, well it wasn't giving up again just I didn't have another one. But, even now 8 years on I do still get times when I could just... But I don't because it is just a passing a craving and it will go away so be brave and put on lots of handcream and perfume (because then if you do cave in that ciggy will be rank and you'll throw it away) :D

Comms nurse just left. Apparently plan is to wean Rhys at 5 months - i've just realised that's only three weeks away! Might have to get the speech therapists involved again. Wish I'd looked more at the weaning foods in the Baby Event now!

Is first weaning food always baby rice?

Pretty much, for the reasons that Mel said (easy to digest, make and tastes bland. But then you can add some pureed veg or fruit to it and introduce taste slowly. Plus baby rice is great for bulking out pretty much any type of baby food. And it's cheap.

Oh my lord - when did looking after my baby become a full time job??

Moving, eating babies are much harder work than sleeping, booby feeding ones :D

I have read back a few pages, I am afraid that is all I can manage whilst Benjamin is napping.

Sparkle hun ((HUGS)) do you remember how hard it was to quit? How every waking moment was spent concentrating on not smoking? Do you remember how horrible it was to smell someone who had been smoking? Do you remember what it was like to smell it on your clothes?

It really isn't worth going back to smoking. All those horrible things are still horrible and your kids don't want to smell it either.

You need to find another outlet for your stress (and remember, smoking doesn't do anything to deal with the stress - and you will stress more if you do start again). Start with a rant on here and then you can sort out a plan to deal with it.

You can buy some cigs - but all your problems will still be there PLUS 1.

((HUGS)) hun, you can do it.

Not always! Benjamin had carrots and broccoli to start with ;) We never did 'runny' baby rice, Benjamin had it in a porridge-like consistency - in fact, Benjamin didn't really do runny anything...he kind of lets it run out of his mouth because he doesn't know what to do with it (it's not liquid, but it's not 'food').

Are there any special requirements for weaning Rhys or is it just as you would with any other baby?

I don't think that there were any weaning foods in the baby event.

Edit - Hi annm - don't worry about keeping up, just pipe up when you have something to add!! x
