sky+ box

A quad LNB has four independent outputs, as opposed to a single, which has just one.
A Sky+ digibox has two tuners, one so that you can watch a programme, the other to record. Hence it requires two satellite inputs, which are two cables (or shotgun type cable) attached to two of the four outputs on the LNB.
If there is a single cable, which originally went from the single LNB to the standard digibox, and you wish to move this digibox to another room, attach the single cable to the third output of the newly-installed LNB, and run the other end to the second room. This may involve drilling through the wall.
There are adjustments on a Sky satellite dish, one for the elevation, which moves the dish up and down, but not side to side. The arm of the dish will pull down slightly with the extra weight of the new, heavier, quad LNB. To compensate, slightly elevate the dish. Someone inside the house will need to watch until the picture is stable.
It will cost in the region of £40 labour in the NW of England to have a local, reputable aerial and satellite company carry out this task, money which you may consider well spent if you are at all hesitant. Parts will be extra.
The outputs on the quad LNB are identical, so that you can connect any cable to any output. Use either self-amalgamating tape or the rubber feet supplied to make sure the cable is sealed.RIP independent MSE.

I've just moved into a new house. The previous owners had SKY+. There is indeed a double wire for SKY+.
We also know that SKY+ deals are not aimed at us poor existing customers. And often all a SKY rep (in a shopping centre or on the phone) can say is...cancel and reorder.
Er no thanks, we've been customers for 10 years, we've paid for 10 years, but we dont get free replacement boxes if ours is broke. We dont get free Sky dish repositioning, we get asked to pay £60.
I'm wondering, if I got a 2nd hand SKY+ box, and I had a double LNB wire could I phone SKY+ to move the sKY to the SKY+ box. Being as I understand it the viewing charge is no different.

If, as you say, you've now got two feeds, you simply swap the Sky+ box into place.
You will need to phone Sky to pair your viewing card to the new box though.Dave. :wave:0 -
One word of warning. You will be treated as taking out a new contract. I did just as you are suggesting back in February but when I tried to cancel my sky contract in August was told I couldn't until next February. They are telling me that I will be charged for the cost of the box and the difference between the subsidised cost of installation and actual cost of installation. I have since requested my new box and a rebate equal to the cost of installation. So far nothing.0

Sorry to hijack this thread - but we have one Sky+ box downstairs and another Sky box (but not +) upstairs on multiroom. I might need new box upstairs, if I buy Sky+ box on Ebay will I just have to change the cabel to the dish?
And will my current card work fine in Sky+ box?0 -

It will work, but as it'll only have 1 feed from the dish, you won't be able to watch one channel and record another.
You'll also have to phone Sky up to pair the card to the new box.Dave. :wave:0 -

That's what I meant - I will need a new cable or something? As we already have one Sky+ in the house the dish should be O.K.?0 -

It will work on 1 cable, if you're happy with that.
If not, buy some cable and run it beside the current one. It is quite a simple job, assuming you're able to get to the dish safely.Dave. :wave:0 -

Yes,you will have a 4 port LNB on the dish, all you need to do is get some CT100 (or equvelent cable but NOT CHEAP cable as it will give you problems!!)
