  • To use the full functionality of a Sky+ box, you need 2 feeds from the dish.

i've looked on ebay and and the quad is very cheap, now do i have to change my dish i've had the same dish for about 7 years and i just looked at the dish and it only has one wire/feed from it the arm is about 30 cm long or does the quad fit on to any dish also if i put my standard sky box in another room would i need to take out the multi-room from sky or would it just works i'll have two or four feeds coming in
  • I wouldn't have thought you'd need to change the dish, but not having actually change an LNB, I can't say that with 100% authority. The LNB should be universal fitting.

You'll need 2 feeds from the dish to your Sky+ box.

You can run another feed into the bedroom and use your old box. You'll receive the Free To Air channels without a card.
If you also want Sky3, FIVER and FIVEUS, you'll need a FreeSatFromSky card at around £20.
If you want the subscription channels in the bedroom, you'll need multiroom.

ok thanks for giving me some advise i'll getting one of those quad soon but will look into weather it will fit my dish or weather i have to have a new dish but thanks again
  • Sorry for hijacking the thread but I just just wanted to find out if, with a SKY+ box, can I record any channel?
My mum loves her Indian Soaps but they always clash with the footy so I'd like to record them for her so I can watch it in peace. However, they do tend to be shown on some obscure indian channels in the 600's so I just wanted to check that this would be possible.

    Thanks.

As long as you've got a proper Sky+ setup, you can record whatever channel your subscription allows.

Yeah if you've subscibed to the channel then you can record it. You can also pre-set it to record every episode. It really does change the way you watch TV.

If you have a Sky dish, you need a Sky quad LNB, rather than a universal (40mm collar) version. You are on the right track with the ones on Ebay. You will need to raise the dish very slightly, to compensate for the extra weight the heavier quad LNB puts on the arm.

You will need to run two feeds to a Sky+ box. You could use the shotgun type cable, which is neater.

You will need to telephone Sky once you have got your Sky+ box, to pair your viewing card.

If you wish to use your standard digibox you can do so by running a feed from a third output on your LNB. You might be able just to reroute the original cable. You then have three options:
    1. Use the digibox with no viewing card. You will not get Sky 3 or the FIVER channels. If you reinsert your viewing card (now being used with your Sky+ box) this will regionalise the EPG and therefore give you the correct channels 101 to 105. FIVE is only free to air in some regions: if you are lucky once you pull the card out FIVE will still be viewable.
    2. You can get a Freesat from Sky card for £20. http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/faqs-freesat.aspx#q3
    3. You can get Sky multiroom. It costs £10 a month and gives you a mirror subscription. However, Sky insist that both boxes are connected to your phone line.
    RIP independent MSE.

How easy is it to do this? I'm a bit cautious so that I don't mis-align my dish

    How would this work?
Would I need a quad LNB and a single/universal LNB?
Is there a 'free' outout on the quad LNB for my normal digibox too?

    Thanks for your help!!!
