I don't see putting blood into the sewage system where it will be processed as any worse than putting vomit or any other bodily fluids into the system. It has to be far better than all that plastic and rubbish, (as well as the blood) into landfill where it will just contaminate the surrounding land and not be processed at all.Have read very nearly the entire topic but was taking ages, so please forigve me if this has been mentioned already.
Putting your blood into the river system (via the toilet or sink) doesn't seem all that environmentally friendly to me. Obviously landfill isn't great either...does anyone have an informed opinion on this?
I suppose it is still better than disposable rubbish though so perhaps I am over-thinking this.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away

Well it isn't processed as much as you think (my profession is water management) but I agree it has to be better than plastic! It's just not as 'perfect' as people might think, but then what is?!Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0

I wonder if anyone can help.
I'm looking to obtain a cup but haven't used tampons for years (at least 10 now and not since having my daughter then) because I used to get flu symptoms associated with TSS. I suppose my question is because you have to insert this - has anyone had any problems with their body trying to reject it as in TSS?
It was also interesting to see that there were other options to Mooncups so thanks!

Hi,
according the Mooncup website:
The Mooncup has never been associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome (T.S.S), which is linked with bacteria, high absorbency tampons and prolonged use. T.S.S is most common in women aged between the ages of 15 and 19 and the risk of contracting it decreases with age. As a precaution, you should be aware that the symptoms of TSS could include sudden high fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting, or a rash rather like sunburn. Should you experience these symptoms during your period you should remove your Mooncup and contact your GP immediately. If you have suffered from T.S.S, it is recommended that you do not use any internal form of sanitary protection, including the Mooncup

You do have a point but waste we can't stop producing needs to be disposed of one way or another. The blood is the bit we can't stop producing well unless you use hormones to control your periods and that in itself causes problems when they get out into the environment. However menstrual cups stop the use of chemicals and paper and the need to landfill the results. So its a reduction in the amount of resources used and waste produced that is the benefit rather than a total lack of impact on the environment."You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts" - Arthur Schlesinger

I apologise for not reading the whole I have just skimmed. Well I've had mine since September and have persevered with it, but gave up for a few months because I got fed up with the leakage. It was really bad, like I wasn't using anything at all. Anyway I'm having a week of sorting things out in the house, so decided it might be a good time to try out my diva cup again. What I think I was doing wrong is that I was inserting it vertically "up". I read that it is better to have it pointing towards tail bone on an angle (right?), and lower down (not like a tampon). Anyway I haven't had any leakage since I tried this, so I think I've finally got it. Hope this might help someone else having same problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong.0

If it works for you then you are doing it right! All our bodies are different shapes and sizes so we'll all need to have slightly different angles. I think I aim more towards my back than up, but its so natural now I don't really think about it.I read that it is better to have it pointing towards tail bone on an angle (right?), and lower down (not like a tampon).
