No one will be able to tell you exactly when to expect your first payment. Once JCP have seen you, your paperwork is sent to the Benefits Delivery Centre to be processed and some time after that you should receive your first payment.
At your new claims interview, no one will judge you and will certainly not look down on your time in the convent. They will explain to you when you need to attend the Jobcentre to 'sign on' (fortnightly); go through the courses/options that are available to you; draw up a Jobseeker's Agreement with you (what sort of work you are looking for; where you are prepared to work; how much you will work for etc); look for suitable jobs for you to apply for and explain how the whole JSA thing works. It should be painless!

I'm not 100% sure of this, but if you did leave voluntariyl/were dismissed then you might be sanctioned for that up to 26 weeks (according to healy http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=22680553&postcount=4 )? but if there were reasons why you had to leave they might just waiver it.

also if you feel you might get upset when you're there if might be worth asking your advisor if you could have it in a private room (normally its done at desks with other people around). I had to ask for this when i had an interview for my ESA yesterday as i was panicky and tearful :o but she was really nice and just talked me though everything

Well I DO feel pretty confident that leaving a "vocation" and where salary/wages dont apply will be treated VERY differently to "resigning from a job". Cecilia - please see the post I made on your thread on the O.S. Board.

FINALLY managed to have some success getting my claim processed, for JSA (i) and LHA. I have an appointment for an interview on Monday afternoon:eek:. Any asdvice of what to expect, please? How do I explain my time in the convent - will that be frowned upon, as though I had chosen to be unemployed/dismissed?? (the reasons are things I simply cannot go into).

I am dreading it. The guy who phoned sounded just a bit older than me and was really sympathetic that I kept crying:o he was also really helpful, advising me that DWP are still recruiting in my area (though nothing suitable for me, when I looked).

So to summarise, what can I expect  and I suppose mote importantly, when am I likely to get some money:rotfl:

    Many Thanks
