Oh God, not entitled to ANYTHING!!!!!

I found the relevant part and, as you say, it does mention being 'wholly maintained' and that doesnt seem to be the scenario here.Yup, it relates to not being entitled if one is 'wholly maintained by a religious order'.
Though that does not seem to be the case with the OP - I wonder how the DM has viewed the £3000 from the convent?

I have a letter saying that the £3000 is to help me settle anew, and is a one-off payment.0 -
and that comment is really helping the OP keep a roof over her head
It was a comment only, the other (including you) posters have given excelent advice that will help her to claim the benefits that she should be entitled too.
OP Ive been there too and in that context it certainly inst blasphamy, as said above I just though it was a strange thing for someone whos more than averagely interested in religion to say and I`ll add a prayer for you too.

I've just had the following note sent through to me by my sister - hope you don't mind me posting it to you here :_
'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.' When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence... 'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.'
God Bless x.

Ok, a quick update. My old prioress is writing to explain the situation. Then next week when that arrives we can hopefully continue the claim. Claim will stay dated from yesterday.
Still so stressful, can't talk to anyone 'official' without cryings:o0 -
FINALLY managed to have some success getting my claim processed, for JSA (i) and LHA. I have an appointment for an interview on Monday afternoon:eek:. Any asdvice of what to expect, please? How do I explain my time in the convent - will that be frowned upon, as though I had chosen to be unemployed/dismissed?? (the reasons are things I simply cannot go into).
I am dreading it. The guy who phoned sounded just a bit older than me and was really sympathetic that I kept crying:o he was also really helpful, advising me that DWP are still recruiting in my area (though nothing suitable for me, when I looked).
So to summarise, what can I expect
and I suppose mote importantly, when am I likely to get some money:rotfl:
Many Thanks

Did they definitely say that this was the reason why they were saying you would not receive any benefit? Have you attended the Jobcentre to make your claim yet? From your posts, it seems that you haven't but really you should be allowed to make you claim at the JCP and if anything, your claim should be suspended until they decide whether you are entitled to benefits or not. I also don't think that they should be telling you that you will not be getting any benefits at all until the Decision Makers have looked at your claim. Sorry if I have missed anything to say that you have attended the JCP!0

I vaguely recall that there are regulations regarding people who are or have been members of religious orders.
I've never dealt with such a claim but I do remember it being discussed one time as it was something unusual for us to deal with. I'll have a quick scan of the regulations and see if I can find anything that makes any sense.
Thank you, yes that was part of the problem. It now seems to be resolved, and I have an interview on Monday!
Thank you sooo much to everyone who has been so kind and helpful.0
