Oh God, not entitled to ANYTHING!!!!!

  • Are you sure that they did not just say that they thought you would not be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance Contributions Based? If they did (and a lot of people only hear that they will not be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance, not the Contributions based bit), then you may well still be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance Income Based-they are two different benefits.
  • I had applied income based as I knew contributions had not been made, and also to apply for LHA at the same time.

try not to worry, firstly the person on the need of the phone is unlikely to know much about benefits and entitlement, also as has previously been said they should not give any indication of what you might or might not get, that is not their job (which is just to collect the evidence).

You have made a claim for Contributions JSA, everybody does this as a matter of course, its the way the computer system works, expect to receive a letter when your claim is processed confirming you are not entitled to this.

There is no reason (based on what you've posted over the past few weeks) to suggest you will not be entitled to Income based JSA.

Lastly if you don't receive a call by 10.30am ring back yourself, its unlikely the person will call you as there day is a strict regime of receiving calls and making callbacks (unless by some chance its a supervisor).

Best of luck and try not to worry, it'll sort itself out.

  • I agree with sammyjammy above.

Try not to worry...i think i remember that you mentioned there was a problem with your NI conts for previous years. It could be as already stated that your not entitled to JSA conts.

There should be no reason you will not be entitled to JSA IB. Take a deep breath.....:)

They can identify that you are not entitled to anything at this stage, this happens most oftern when you say you are a student, or don't answer the are availble or fit for work questions correctly.

You can either tell them to take the claim anyway, you have right to make a claim even if you had a full time job.

Or ask them withdraw your current claim and start again on the phone. The web service is not really worth the hassell. I would do this my self but there are some slight implications re when your claim may start from

Do you know who it was whom you spoke to? Have you already made an appointment for an interview at the Jobcentre? Was it the Contact Centre or an FA (Financial Assessor) who was phoning to go over your claim? If it was an FA, who sometimes phone before you attend the Jobcentre to complete the claim process, then some of them have vast benefits experience and may just have given you the benefit of this knowledge in that they believed that you would not be entitled to JSA(C). If it was the Contact Centre, then I agree with everybody else-they are not benefit trained and are not in a position to give any opinion (and that is what it would be at this stage). I really do believe, though, from what you have posted here that they must have been referring to JSA(C) and not that you would not be entitled to anything.
Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

I vaguely recall that there are regulations regarding people who are or have been members of religious orders.

I've never dealt with such a claim but I do remember it being discussed one time as it was something unusual for us to deal with. I'll have a quick scan of the regulations and see if I can find anything that makes any sense.

*Oh God, not entitled to ANYTHING!!!!!*

Thats a very strange thing to say after being in a convent, to take Gods name in vain.

Yup, it relates to not being entitled if one is 'wholly maintained by a religious order'.

Though that does not seem to be the case with the OP - I wonder how the DM has viewed the £3000 from the convent?
