What are his hobbies? YOu could get something towards that or start him on a new hobby?

In our family, people seem to go from a youth of sloth (me, cousins & my siblings!;)) to an old age of gravity defying muscles.

So far the over 65s in our family have started: taking it courses, belly dancing, going to the gym, golf, car mechanics, properly follwing the horses, painting, learning mandarin, french, german and japanese.

They've all also upped their travelling, so will do day trips to a part of the country they've not been, a short city break or even time away with the family. I think the time out of normal environment and exploring, especially if there haven't been funds in the past always goes down well.

we tend to get presents around those sort of active activities or those that do as many 'elderly' type presents are quite passive and at that age encouragement to get out there and challenge yourself is the most important thing.

Hope you find a good gift:)

Trace his family tree - I did this for my Dad's 50th - There is a UK geneology site and then you can find one who specialises in certian areas - cost me about £100 - you could split the cost between a few of you.

Or how about taking him out for dinner and a little party?

    Theatre tickets?

A trip on the orient express / the flying scotsman?

Flight tickets for a day trip somewhere - like Edinburgh, etc

Tickets for something like this - bouremouth symphony ochestra

Tickets for a whisky tasting evening?

Hope some of that helps - Love Alison x

  • I've just been to a wonderful 70th party where the young (15-ish) daughter of the 70 yr old bought a lovely notebook, and got all his friends to write half a page about what he meant to them.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

We are living out of the country and I am trying to find a 70th present I can send for my Mother in Law's birthday. There aren't many relatives in the family and we don't have access to any old photos etc and I am at a loss as to what to do.

She is a very active lady but doesn't like activities or pampering so we can't send an activity break - can't do photos, not sure what else to do. For Father in Law we got a coin from his birth year and a DVD set he wanted but I really want to do something special.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Hi, I know it's a bit 'off topic', but I'm thinking of trying to organise a trip for possibly me & my dad to visit the WW1 graves in France, Somme etc, perhaps taking my son who's 14 along too, and so spend some time with both of them, as I know my Dad would be interested in this sort of thing, and I think it could be quite special, as my dad never travels anywhere, or has many interests, can anybody shed some light on how to organise such a trip, say for 2-3 days, and hopefully not breaking the bank, I'm in Northern Ireland btw...apart from that I think the idea of a special book with friends/ relatives thoughts written down sounds like a great idea, a very personal and cherished gift I would imagine.

We're holding a surprise party for my mum at a smal community centre. The problem is we have a mixed aged group with some people travelling 180miles.

We were going to just have background music but wondered now whether we should have a disco/band. the party is 4:45 - 7:30pm and then back to our house if people wish.

We thought a steelband would be good but this will cost £350, anyone any ideas please?
    How much ?????????!!!
