I ordered a new desktop from Dell on 28 October. I was given a delivery date of 25 November, which has now changed to 23 December! I have emailed without getting a response and tried to ring but no-one answers. I have just emailed again threatening to cancel my order if they don't reply BUT they have already taken the money out of my account. I'm not sure what to do next, any ideas gratefully received.

  • Go onto their forums and fight it out there. I had a few hiccups with a Dell lappy and it was sorted promptly. Like others have bought 3 and would do so again.

By the way, congrats on the signature.

The call centre has an "on hold" telephone function that would give Willy Wonkers everlasting gob stopper a run for its money.

Take a look at the thread DELL HELL started by me last Saturday, which describes what I have done.

Before I tell you the next bit, first you must sit down as the shock could momentarily unsteady you, but...... wait for it.... I actually got a call from Dell this afternoon. A very polite man from Edinburgh telephoned in response to the letter I faxed last Friday to DELL's UK MD. He said that the matter had been escalated to the highest level (I guess he was trying to impress eh…). He told me what I had been told yesterday when I phoned them, that our monitor is only a few days away from being delivered. I do hope he is right.

When I ordered mine, they delivered on the correct day but refused the delivery as I wasn't there. My dad, being my dad would have tried his best to get them to let him take it. Anyway, I was a bit annoyed but they simply asked me to book another date for the delivery which I took a day off for. I waited most of the day and the man finally arrived in a small unmarked van. You wouldn't have thought he was delivering for Dell. He was very polite and efficient I felt a bit sorry for him having to deliver all these big boxes on his own. Also felt bad for feeling annoyed they wouldn't leave the computer with my dad.

That was about 6 years ago and the computer is still going strong albeit it the specs are extremely dated.

Yeah must admit I've never had any problems with them either. Got a laptop for the hubby and a desktop for me. My desktop is over 3 years old and still a better spec than many you can buy in the shops right now. I would definitely buy another from them!

    mixed responses here, interesting.
i have a dell laptop and when the hard drive broke, they replaced it all, recovered all software for free, it was fine.
but only used them once, maybe i was lucky.

Thanks for your comments. I have tried to ring them but gave up after being cut off a number of times. DBZ please let us know what happens!

The problems start with Dell, it seems, when something goes wrong. Most people seem to have at least acceptable or better opinion of the product when all is well, but when you have cause for concern with them, their support is shockingly poor. For me, it’s not that there has been a problem per se (things do go wrong after all albeit the initial delay was very bad timing as it was bought as a present) more that their response and efforts to sort it out are shambolic. That is what I resent and is the main reason I posted on this forum, to warn others that if all is not well, be prepared for a proper headache and lots of time spent sorting it out.

I would give up phoning moxie and write a letter. Whilst our problem is still outstanding, the letter to the MD seems to have stirred them into doing something. We will see.
  • Three laptop, two no problems whatsoever, 1 a pain. Coloured lines and dashes on screen, 3 times sent back and once engineer came, changed about everything and then solved it. Been perfect ever since.
I think that some prople are just plain unlucky whilst most are OK.

You will forgive me Peter The Piper, but your comment sounds a bit like "well when I got run over by the bus, I sustained a broken leg, two broken arms and a fractured skull but apart from that everything was fine!" Errr right then...
