  • I have been with BT for many years. Last year my contract was up for renewal and somebody called me to ask if I would sign up for 12 months. It was due to expire in May this year. I signed up for SKY (purely to get HD tv as Vision does not offer this) and called for my MAC code this morning. I was told that I had agreed to a 12 month contract running till May next year!

This is not true - I was told a new system had just been installed and they will investigate. Why would I agree to a new contract with SKY if I knew I had JUST renewed my contract with BT. I am extremely unhappy since I have been with BT for years and I am expecting a long wait while this is looked into. Something does not sit right. I may now be faced with a position where I have to either pay some fee (I guess) or cancel my order with SKY. What are my avenues to complain since I have NOTHING in writing from BT and have not agreed to extend my contract, neither verbally or in writing.

    Please advise ppl!

Yep, BT have done the same thing to me.

Phoned up in December 09 to see how much longer my contract lasted. I had received a whopping bill that month and discovered I had been charged twice for my broadband. It took me a week to resolve the issue so I was naturally not to happy with BT. I was quoted July as an expiry for my contract.

So I waited and called up today to get my MAC code and start the process of changing service providers. I was told my contract did not expire until this December! Why? I had entered a new one when I had called in December 09. That is certainly not true, why would I do that when I was ringing to find out when my contract expired? I remember what took place in that phone call. I cancelled my direct debits and asked for a quarterly bill so BT could not just take any amount out of my account they liked when they made any future errors. I have the subsequent letter to prove it!

These are not the tactics I expect from a flagship British company. I now plan to move my phone service as well ASAP. My contract is getting investigated and I should here in 5 days about it. If I do not I will be contacting OFCOM, the CAB and my family solicitor. I am outraged and disgusted.

The problem with BT is that whenever you ring them, you speak to some bloke in a sweat shop in Bangalore that barely has enough english to say their name.

I had BT for a while, then left them as their service was absolutely appauling.

  • I'm leaving Bt because of broadband that is slower than dial up! The 'configured speed' reported by BT's own speed checker varies from 96Kbps to 2000Kbps, so they are obviously throttling the bandwidth despite saying they are not! Most of the time it's down at about 250 Kbps.

However, I have just had a similar thing to the posts above, £37 of termination charges after being with BT for about 25 years all because i was within the minimun term of the contract!! How long is the contract!???

Whe I phoned, i was told it was because the Free evening and weekend calls had been renewed automatically in feb, for another 12 months.

Come on BT, you need to contact people about contract renewals. Not renew them automatically and tie people in for 12 months without their knowledge.
