Hi,
SWMBO has just discovered strong links between her unusual surname and the area of the country that we've not long moved to. Obviously, she's excited at this, and wants to research it further.
Anybody got a discount code for Ancestry, before she dives in and subs at full price? Thanks everso!0 -
Find my past has a free weekend this weekend if she just wants to do some quick searches. Not used it, so not sure what it's like but might be worth a look before she shells out membership elsewhere.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Some versions of the 'Family Tree Maker' software include various sorts of free subscriptions, which may work out a bit cheaper.
For example:

or cheaper still for an earlier version (assuming the free sub is still valid?):

There are probably even cheaper versions to be found elsewhere.Stompa0 -
I bought a 2014 version of Family Tree Maker from Tesco using Clubcard points a few months ago to get the 6 month sub, I think it was about £16. Typical, I then got really ill for months and couldn't go online at all and the entire 6 months was wasted, but c'est la vie. Worth a look on Tesco if you have any points.Mother, wife, scientist, analyst.

I think findmypast is very good - certainly worth a free trial.
They have a lot of parish records which I'm working my way through at the moment.0 -
Thanks for those suggestions.
She knows other family members have trees for other branches on Ancestry, so there's a strong lean towards that direction. We don't shop at Tesco or have points, so that's a non-starter.
Ancestry does have a 14-day free trial, which may prove sufficient.0 -
I was offered 25% off Worldwide Ancestry subscription but declined this at renewal because it has gone up to £179 a year. I cancelled and then received an offer of 20% by email on the same day of cancelling. I cancelled Sky and got 50% off and £50 credit on my account so thought I would try this with Ancestry. Has anyone had any success with them. I am now waiting for a better offer.0
