Yes, that wouldn't be demeaning to the genuine cases. And please realise that the amount of fraudulent claims are very, very low. Yes, the newspaper highlights the fraudulent, but what about those that do deserve it? There are no articles on them.

So in which way are you screwing the system? Or are you the only exception to this judgement?

Are you kidding? Have you ever sat and worked out this so called luxury? A carer for an example gets £53.10 a week to live on, and they have to be doing 35 hours or more caring hours. So if we divide that by 35 (and of course many carers don't just work 35 hours, but have to be there 7 days a week, and 24 hours) they get a grand total of £1.51 an hour. Last time I checked minimum wage was £5.73. Gosh, what luxury.

Don't even get me started on disability benefits. You do know those genuine cases are often on it for life, not just (hopefully) short-term like unemployment – so are they supposed to be in total poverty for their entire life?

How many incredibly flexible employers do you know? Who would allow them to work for only a couple of days due to terrible fatigue, or let them take a few weeks off because you’re having a flare up and don’t know why? How many let them constantly switch their days to allow for constant hospital/doctor/physio/whatever appointments. It’s very rare to find an employer like this, who will take someone who is disabled on. Of course if you don’t tick the disabled box and it later turns out to be the case, you can be fired.

While putting up scaffolding is very suspect, there is this horrible attitude out there you have to be hobbling around 24/7. For example, some days a walking stick is needed, other days it seems like I can walk fine. Some days I can even drag myself to an exercise class, other days I can’t get out of bed. There is variation.

A system needs to be put in place where these people who cannot walk more than 30 yards who park in disabled spaces then walk a fair old distance around asda or tescos doing their shopping.

Like I said there are genuine cases out there that find it difficult to get on the system when they need it.

It's a well known fact there are those that are milking the system. I cannot understand how you can be given the minimum amount for your living needs then go out and get a car with it.

I can count at least 20 local to me who are all at it.

As for me screwing the system :rotfl:I work hard for any money I receive.

Like I said the system needs to be looked in to.

The fact is how many people would go to work after receiving these payments.

And I say again if people are genuinely entitled to it, claim by all means thats what it is there for.

    :)

No, we are not selling it....we came to the UK for an extended holiday and I found I had to stay here for a while for various reasons. We are lucky enough to have a house in both countries.

We were going to do half-and-half next year anyway, so it's just come forward a few months. The Spanish house will be our second home.

I have applied for a temporary job, but if I don't get it we will probably head off to Spain around the middle/end of October for the winter months.

(And you are the 'missile' I have spoken to under another name on Spanish expat forums!:rotfl:)

We prefer summer in UK. Off to spain on Friday.

I did confirm that in response to your question on Expat forum. I thought it was you, but you did not reply

    Oh....sorry. I didn't realise. Didn't mean to be rude.

Have a good time in Spain! (I hate the summer there too, much too hot!).

Well I was driving to work on Wedneday and stuck in traffic when I saw a young man come out of the assessment centre with 2 sticks then when he got a littlet bit away one stick went under one arm so he could light a cigarette, then the other got balanced over his shoulder while he strolled along. This is why some of us are cynical and sick of working to support these lazy gits.

I just wonder how competent the medical assessors really are . Genuine people get turned down and others bleed us dry for years.

Actually psst, to get any DLA at all is incredibly difficult. I have two quite severe and very painful mobility issues and they won't even give me low rate.

    .

I personally know of someone who has a full time job which involves driving and working at various locations and they get DLA at some level. Although it isnt means tested, the job is such that the person earns almost £40k pa gross.

I think much has to do with your skill at presenting a winning case, a bit like a criminal barrister.

If your case looks good, fits some criteria and you can hook in some support such as professional opinion/reports then you are on a winner.

I'd guess there are lots of deserving DLA cases that either never get applied for or get turned down.

If they filled in the application and got it without going to tribunal - the DWP would never have known they work. It's not asked on the application form.

I had to go to tribunal and they got all funny with me when I said I worked two days a week. :( I tried to explain there are lifts up to where I work, and I can take breaks, have lots of equipment to help, but nooo.

Perhaps the person that wrote it just managed to describe their problems very well? Think that was my issue - not enough detail. I'm now waiting to get some help, then will try again.

And so do I. The person in question has DLA, which is given up to get a motability car, has a very responsible job for a credit card company, has a beautiful house etc. etc.

The catch? She is an amputee having been injured as a pedestrian by a speeding police car and I would not begrudge her any of it.

You don't know what goes on in other peoples lives. If you get a motability car, you give up the DLA cash, you still have to put petrol etc. in the car and live.

DLA isn't means tested so whether you earn 40k or earn 10k its irrelevant. The idea of DLA is to help you have as normal life as possible, obviously money couldn't replace lost arms/legs or other disabilities but it goes some where to help you get around or be looked after
