Back to school this morning after my few days off with the lurgy. Watch out, kids, the 'cooking lady' is back on top form!!!
Lovely misty morning when I had my 'garden coffee' this morning but it is clearing now. Washing all done, ironing all done, dinner defrosting for tonight, kitchen clean - why doesn't the rest of the week go this smoothly:rolleyes:
Hope to have an exchange/completion date by the end of the week - I'm getting so impatient now. It seems as if we have been living out of boxes for weeks now. I'm itching to get started on my new garden!!!
DD fell off the trampoline yesterday and hurt her wrist - luckily it's not her writing hand. P.E. might be a bit of an issue though. No serious damage done.
Got to get DD to the bus stop - will check in later...
    Have a good day

    Morning all :)

We had (reduced :D ) roast duck for dinner last night so today will be duck and pancakes (if OH hasn't eaten the rest of it - which is quite likely. If he has it will be tofu as he hates it :D ). I have the carcass in the slow cooker so might make some stuffed dumplings to go in that. OH made gravy from the giblets, I ws most impressed. I also have about 500 ml of duck fat, which made the best roast potatoes in the world :) It took ages to cook, so I made lemon and poppy seed buns, orange and museli buns and a fruit loaf whilst the oven was on.

I cleaned out the avalance cupboard at the weekend and bought some vacuum bags to store the duvets in. I can now get things in and out of the cupboard without getting concussion.

Gertudeanna - If he's still in bed, now would be the time to hoover :D JD does make people really mardy - we used to call it the "bourbon blues" at college.

I have nearly finished the thesis I'm reading :( We are going to go through it on Thursday I had hoped I could just leave it on his desk, but it looks like I'm in for the long haul on it. He will get very defensive about it too, which I am not looking forward to one little bit :(

Right - off to work again (I have been here since 6 am) as I have to collect some bits up for the project student.

I don't know why I say that - as noone else in my building gets in until coffee time (10 am) :(

Ooohh.. and I sucessfully cancelled Christams :D OH has agreed we can go away instead :D wooohh hoo!

Have a good day all, cel x

    :hello: Good morning!

Up earlier than usual today (not really feeling awake yet) as i need to go round to the surgery by 8.00 to make an appointment for DS - he hasn't been well for some time ("I can't go to the doctor, I've got too much to DO" typical bloke) and in no state to get up himself and go round there. He only got to sleep a couple of hours ago You are meant to be able to ring for an on-the-day appointment, but as that means everyone is trying to get through at the same time it doesn't work very well. They did used to have a system which told you which number you were in the queue while waiting, but it's been replaced with one which plays music at you and keeps saying "Please continue to hold. Your call is important to us", and last time I needed an appointment it said "The Surgery is currently experiencing high call volume. Please call back at a less busy time" (Which is entirely pointless, as if you ring back at a less busy time, all the appointments are taken. )

taplady - Well done to your DBro :T

NPM hope your cousin got on ok! And that you are feeling a bit better, and that Noah hasn't caught it

tired mum - Don't think we've heard from you for a little while - hope you're ok xx

Marie - I bet the pup is gorgeous :happyhear

The roast lamb last night was lovely, been a long time since we've had that. loads of meat left over (It made a nice change from dismembering a chicken carcass :p) for shepherd's pie and probably enough for something else too. I've kept the bone so I can have a go at stock if I feel brave :o

Will try to pop back later. xx
  • Morning all:hello:

The House of Thrift has a collective cold. We are carrying on as usual though;)

Supper - I have a chicken carcase to deal with. I think in view of our cold a dose of Jewish penicillin is required. So chicken soup with barley for supper, plus some nice crusty bread. I need something that will reheat later as we have a school meeting at 6.

Lunch boxes had carrot and cheese sandwiches, apples and muffins.

    Breakfast was beans on toast.

This morning I'm off to the farmshop and Waitrose. I love food shopping:D Loads of laundry to do as per...

I've been reading a lot about sour dough bread (in the new River Cottage book and also in the River Cottage Family Cookbook). I've decided to give it a go. Anyone else tried it? I've read the thread we have on here but any tips would be appreciated.
  • Morning all. Managed to click on the "like it" button instead of the thanks button on the 1st post, have no idea what that actually does?

MSD - happy birthday to your nephew, so sorry you don't get to see or speak to him any more.

Celyn - you always seem to get so much done in a day with the hours at work you do, do you ever sleep?

N9eve - glad the rain has finally stopped, I remember your posts all over the summer with all the rain!

Not sure what I'm going to do today, might take the opportunity to catch up on some of the stuff I've recorded on tv. Only holby and casualty, but I've weened myself off tv full stop other than those (and the bill and strictly!), so I don't think thats too bad. Got a good book on the go as well, so I might just have a "me" day and be totally lazy!

Before that though, I need to get the washing machine on and empty the dishwasher.!

The best news for me this morning was I lost 5lbs this week. :jI re-started slimming world 2 weeks ago, only lost 1.5lbs the first week, so was really chuffed this morning. Am doing it myself, not going to meetings, so very money saving as well!

    Have a great day.

    Good morning all!

Bright and sunny here today, once it warms up a bit more I shall be taking the dog for his daily drag - he doesn't like the cold any more than me!

Have S&S the kitchen, tidied the sitting room and hallway, put wm on, sorted out odd packs of pulses and spices into jars - note to self, need more jars! Just need to have a good hoover round, get on with some ironing (did loads last night, so at least weeks uniforms are done and my bedding is ironed - mad I know, but I like a nice smooth duvet and pillow cases!) and make some more hobnobs!

Lunch today for kids was turkey sarnies, apple, orange, caramel kitkat (fancy trying them myself!) and a treat bag of crisps (oh the excitement!).

Dinner will be sausages with potato and cauli bake - pots and leeks/onions sliced thinly on mandolin, layered in moski, cauli broken into pieces on top, and cheese sauce poured over it all, takes a couple of hours to cook right through but it's lovely! Will serve with a small side salad and some crusty rolls.

Need to throw some ingredients in bm for rolls in a bit and slice pots, will cook this morn and then just reheat later before kids get home. My lunch will be the soup I made yesterday, just leek, pot, carrot, milk and stock with a couple of good handfuls of barley and blitzed when veg cooked through. It's delicious and dd1's current fave, though ds moans about the barley he still eats it! We seem to be having a bit of a soup phase here at the mo, always good as a snack or quick supper before bed when the kidlets start moaning they're hungry again. Bought some butternut squash in Aldi last week as they're on offer at 49p, so will be making orange soup next, got an enormous pot of coriander reduced to 16p yesterday so that'll give it a nice tang.

Did really well in Mr T's yesterday, lots of stuff really reduced, so picked up several bags of apples and mini oranges as fruit seems to vanish here at an alarming rate, also got some nice hams reduced and a couple of packs of kievs (perfect for can't be bothered nights!), got a few cartons of milk for the freezer too, though at the speed that dd3 is drinking milkshakes perhaps I shouldn't have frozen it!

Was up bright and early, well early anyway, to take oh into work, sky was absolutely beautiful, streaked with pink and orange, looked just like a painting. No doubt I shall be flagging by this evening, just about when I'm due to start work! So shall attempt to fit in a spot of relaxation reading my Dan Brown book, well that's the best excuse I can come up with!

Oh, funny bit of post today, letter from dd1 and ds's school informing me that they now take payments over the internet! Whilst I appreciate that it makes it more secure than carrying money around for the kids, surely the amounts shouldn't be large enough to necessitate a system like this?! Having just paid out a fair whack for dd3's afterschool clubs, break time snacks, and a copy of dvd of her school production (though all of these are fairly reasonable and pretty good value, esp the snacks) I am feeling a little grumpy about the fact that education is meant to be free, grumble grumble!

Ah well, best get on with pots and hobnobs and ironing, have a good day all xx

:hello: sistercas, so glad you are feeling better! Try to take things easy for a bit longer so you don't get ill again.

mummysaver - that bake sounds lovely.
  • :hello: to everyone...hope you are all doing ok today

    Its quite chilly here today

Well got daughter off to school and sat watching Mr Tumble with my son at the mo.
Plan to get a fair bit done today including:
Putting washing away ....hubby sanded down a wall in the kids room and didn't move any clothes off the shelves so had to rewash everything, so theres 4 baskets to put away.
    Clean the Guinea Pig out
Go to the farm for eggs...if i manage that, then will make cakes this afternoon with the kids.
    Hoover living room
    Tidy kitchen.

Meals today are going to be a bit all over the place as hubby has a job trial this afternoon, so is out of the house 2pm til 8pm, so kids will be eating seperately today. Got lots of leftover chicken from the roast tho, so will do the kids a creamy chicken pasta dish and hubby will have chicken with the leftover roasties.

Hoping we all have a good day :)

Morning all - I'm Home Alone, I'm Home Alone La La La La LA La ..... and relax. Got a few days off w*rk and, although I need them for some boring doemstic catch-up it's still what passes for excitement around here :)

Big day yesterday - out with Mr Potential, his dd, my dd and dgs for the first time. It all went really well and I have decided that a 4yo dgs is an ideal accessory for any social situation that might prove awkward. dd(13) declared the day "good" and the man "nice" which is about as enthusiastic as she gets these days - he's a Teacher which means he's a demi-god in her eyes :)

Plans today are to do some cleaning (lots) and painting (some) and magic the wilting and puckered contents of the bottom of the fridge into something soupy and edible - have good days :)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
