Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 21st September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all

It's my youngest nephews 10th birthday today. I miss him so much.
welcome.giftoD1965 - good to have you with us.
Noahs - Hope you feel better hon.
MissyMoo and MadMel - Welcome back both, do please post again!
Taplady - Thank you. xx
Bitsy - hope your back is better today.
Nic1 - yes you can use any tomatoes. THIS is my fave recipe.
PenPin - hope you start feeling better soon
Hope everyone in the North run did well!

My OS-iness today will be supervising my homehelp (new girl today as reg lady is on holiday) - though actually that doesn't really count does it as I am doing nothing.. giggle.gif In reality the BM and WM are on which counts as OS for me. Hoping the weather is as good as yesterday and I can get out into the garden again.
Am going to spend an hour or so today ordering veg seeds and spring bulbs. I want to grow onions and garlic again as they were the simplest things ever and next year I will also start my chillis and peppers off in Jan/Feb instead of waiting until April. Oh by the way, I found the variety of pepper that produced my jumbo plant with huge crops of small yellow peppers - Capsicum gourmet. I finally found the seed packet!
Will have the rest of the sausage bean and bacon stew thingy tonight with lots of home made bread to mop it all up.
I hope you have a good start to the week. Warm gentle hugs.giffor anyone who wants one!

  • Morning MSD and anyone else. I can't sleep!! Am gona try again in a bit but thought I'd jump on and say thanks for the support over my exam. It went well I think - only problem is is that we don't get feedback on how we have done. Well I've only done it for fun so doesn't matter either way.

I hope my OH has a stinking hangover today!! DS's b'day party yesterday was good fun till OH got plastered and started kicking off over something that happened more than 10 years ago - and then started having a go saying I'd embarrased HIM for the last time - hmmm, think you've embarrassed yourself actually!! Luckily the other parents had gone and it was just us and two friends left - Jack Daniels is now on the list of things he cannot drink!!

Anyway - was meant to start my days again today but the new callcentre lines aren't quite ready yet so 1-8 today..boohoo!
Tea today is leftover veggies chucked into a soup I think - would have has some pork but OH scoffed it - not that he'll remember!! Will put the WM on later - and just S&S needed today!

Right I'm going to try to sleep again - still got the argument going through my head - hmmm, maybe I'll try reading for a bit.

    Have a good day all.

PP - hope today is better for you
Bitsy - hope your back is feeling easier today.

OS stuff today - WM & BM to go on asap, dinner will be spag bol from freezer and summer fruits on meringue for pud. Would also like to do some tidying in the garden but will see how I feel after work.

    Hi Guys...
I was up at 4 am today to get one of kids up who is going to Rome for a couple of days. How the other half live!!
MSD - Im glad you get a replacement homehelp. Mine is off today but I didn't get offered a replacement. Did you have to ask or was it just offered?
I could do with the extra help = having said that my youngest son did a lot yesterday but then I hate have to keep asking him as i dont want them to suffer. They already did not have a holiday this year due to this dammed illness and we have always gone to the seaside in previous years. Still he,in particular, is a very resouceful young man (13) who will make someone very happy in the future. Wish i could say the same for my eldest son:eek:

Im pottering around today. I got organised yesterday which feels good. My WM is on and DW is organised. Need to phone the DWP regarding my DLA:mad:. It stresses me just listening to that music. I also need to finish writing my letters to my consultants. I also sold some more books on Amazon over weekend so need to get them to PostOffice.

    Have a calm Monday,
    Molly

Morning. Another dry day in Cornwall. Must be a record, It has not rained for almost 3 weeks.
Day off for me, so it will be painting and getting ready for a fishing comp tomorrow.

Extracted my honey from the small miserable amount that the bees made through the wet summer. I have about 50lbs, so can't grumble. It's far better than anything you can buy. I know people who don't like honey, find that they do like honey after all!

Made an error on Sky Plus over the weekend. Recorded Casino Royal and because there was a break for the news in the middle. It finished recording  I am sure Bond recovered from the poisoning, but does he win the money?
I will have to see if Dad has the DVD.

Chicken for tea in some form. I bought loads of £2 chickens from Tesco. Having raised them myself at present. How the heck do you make a profit on that?

    Morning peeps

    Welcome D1965 :hello:

Diva - I shall definitely be buying those seeds, thanks for the info

I confess to not having read all of yesterdays thread yet :o consider my wrists slapped :D i shall go back shortly and read the rest. I often do read the rest of the day before`s thread the next morning anyway as i feel that i`ve not caught up properly and i know that as the winter sets in we get some late posters and i would hate to think that i`m missing them, does anyone else do this?

The weather forecast here is fine so we should have a good day, there was a bit of a nip in the air earlier and it did feel strange to be leaving the house in the total darkness again as i`d got used to lovely sunny mornings.

This morning i`ve only put the wm on, the dw and bm were on overnight and the bm dosen`t finish the program until 7am and i leave the house at 5am so DH will be doing the emptying, i`ve just called him to ask him to put the washing out as the forecast is good - hope things don`t change!

Plans later are to catch up with some ironing and sort out my seeds ready for next year, i`d like to start things earlier next year in the house before moving the plants out into the greenhouse, seems to make for stronger plants.

N9eav - DSis is in Cornwall atm and she rang yeserday to say that the weather is fantastic.

Kjsam - Hope that you`re feeling better soon.

    Have a lovely day peeps.

    SD
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
  • Morning All

Gert - my OH cant drink Jack Daniels - makes him miserable strange as other whisky's dont have that effect

Monday again urgh. Today will be in the office & errand running. Am washing the cushion covers today & only have a small amount of ironing from what was washed yesterday :jso will make sure that gets done today.

DS has kickboxing tonight at a really pain in the bum time, so DD & I will have omelettes & DS & OH egg on toast when they get in. Nothing much to report, caught up with SCD yesterday - quite enjoyable.

So not too much OS today but will try and remember to run the washing machine on a hot wash with soda crystals & vinegar later - havnt done that for a while & put soda crystals down the sink.

    Have a great day.x
  • Morning everyone.
Not sure what to do today. Have no major plans (DS has usual nursery this afternoon). After what I spent in Costco yesterday I forsee lots and lots of NSD coming up :o
So I suppose it will be a little bit of washing, might see if I can tidy up the garden some more (depends on the weather so not sure) and do some housework. Who says my life isn't glamarous

Dinner tonight will be cajun chicken and HM wraps, nice and easy as chicken is already cooked and wraps are in freezer since last week :D

Diva - I meant to say thank you for the hugs you send me on Friday. Sorry you are missing your nephew. I doubt I shall be seeing much of my niece and nephew as my brother is a total tool  Shan't bore you with the details.......but needless to say these are my only neice and nephew but my brother is making any tenous relationship that we have not worth the effort and is well and truly burning any bridges.

kjsam - hope your sore throat goes soon x

Gert - sorry about your argument with your OH. Hope he realises what a fool he's been and has a hangover to remind him not to be so daft and drink JD ;)

N9eav - 50lbs of honey sure sounds a lot to me :D Shall I tell you how Casino Royale finishes???

Have a good day OS or not.
Off to check out the Flylady for today (oh joy!)

    Morning all,

Colder here this morning, but it looks like it might be nice later, I have at least three loads to put in the wm, not sure where it all comes from

Little dog has the vets tonight for her booster and to check her 'bum' problem :o, I dont know if you remember but there was a chance that she would have to have an op costing £1000 , but we seem to be staying on top of things at the moment, which is a relief. ( for both of us I'm sure :D)

Lots to do today, I want to make a lemon drizzle cake, and I must harvest my chillis, some for the freezer and I would like to make a chilli jam.

I also must must must pick the grapes from the vine, and do something with them.

I need to have a tidy through and do an online shop, that should keep me busy :D

    Have fun all xx
