  • just back from Portugal, Soverign, Mayfair, Royals all 25 euros, Superkings 28 euros and Silk Cut 33 euros. Same price in every shop I went to so I suspect they are fixed.

In Prague the price of cigs is regulated by the govt at 60Kc (£1.45) for 20. Which means whether you go to a supermarket or nightclub they are the same price. Great idea. I got stopped last time with 400 cigs and some tobacco which is double the limit but the customs guy said it was ok and let me go. I think the key is to not take the p*ss.
You can find most major brands in the city. The duty free shop in the airport would not sell me any at all to bring back to UK so I went to the little tobacconnist next door which was doing a good trade.
If you need somewhere to stay look at www.prague-fca.co.uk and mention MSE and you might get a discount.
    Cheers,
    Paul

Out of interest, does anyone know what would happen if you were caught at Manchester Airport with, say 4000 cigs and you'd come from outside the EU where the limit is 200?

Just wondering what customs would do! Not planning it, but know someone who did it a while back, never got caught but always wondered what would have happened if he did...

Not always. Depends where from. I flew back from Margarita, Venezuela, that is a "duty free" place. I bought back 1000 i think. and about 20 litre of rum ( well it was cheap, I coudnt just leave it on the shelves there ;) ) I asked customs did they want me to pay the duty on it they said no, your OK. all this durty free business is confusing for me.

I thought the limits on bringing back had changed with all this EU business, competition & free trade lark, we can bring back what we want- thats right itnt it?

Belgium I heard was cheap, Ive never been though. many people drive to the border from calais http://www.day-tripper.net/tobaccoinbelgium.html

Also to add that on long haul charter ( last one to cancun) I got 400 B&H for 18.99 which I thought was pretty special :) flying with first choice. Outward leg.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Can anyone say whether it's cheapest to buy cigarettes in a UK airport prior to departure to Amsterdam Schipol, or at Schipol airport, or in Amsterdam?

At Poipet on the Cambodian Thai border a carton of well known cigs cost about baht 120 (1pound fifty) or 15p a pack. But it is Cambo after all so there are 14 cigs in the packet !! Still cheap.

You can't buy Duty Free when travelling within the European Union, which means that any cigarettes you purchase at either the UK or Dutch airport will be duty paid. Therefore, cigarettes will be roughly the same price as normal in the UK airport (if not a bit more - it is captive audience after all).

I believe that prices in Holland are fixed - whenever I've bought cigarettes in Amsterdam the person in the shop has looked at the side of the packet and the duty sticker says the price. They should cost the same in the middle of Amsterdam and at the airport.

    Hope to help
