Personal experience at Manchester having been stopped over the limit @ M/cr returning from the Canaries is they take everything OVER the 200 allowance. Don't know whether they have to or not but know several others where that has happened to.Pattycake wrote: If you bring over the allowance they will confiscate the lot.
The CO who pulled us suggested mainland EU as you can bring back any amount for personal use, which he realised our smuggling antics were for. Since then me & missus have ventured forth to Adenkerke in Belgium for a shedload twice a year with a stop in Calais to load up with cheap booze on the return.
BTW, last trip last month both Silk Cut and L&B had been reduced from £28 to £27.50 per 200. As bunking_off says Luxemberg is apparently cheaper still but for a quick jaunt sur La Manche Belgium is best I think.0 -
billie19 wrote:Its a shame that they are so stringent on the tobacco and alcohol but at the same time let any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry into the Country.
I'm certain that the government loses a darn sight more in money from immigrants/asylum seekers than lost revenue in contraband.
Hey, I might even tell them that it's my human rights to bring in my chosen amounts of these items..!!!

Allowing people into the country is'nt a Customs issue its an Immigration Issue.zincoxide wrote:From the customs & excise website:
If you also have tobacco or alcohol goods that you bought in an EU country (other than tobacco products over the limit for imports from that country) you will not have to pay any more duty or tax on these so long as:- they are for your own use and
- you can show, if we ask you to, that you have paid duty and tax in an EU country, for example by producing the receipt.
Well personally myself and my colleagues are very good at recognising health warnings and or duty stamps on cigs etc so your plan wont work, and one other point its H.M Revenue and Customs now not C&E
All the best

For some reason in Febuary the black JPS were only 15 euro in Benidorm. Other usual brands were 24/280

Czech Republic is now in the EU but classed as a new member state, Cigarettes are cheap yet there are notices at PRG explaining that UK passengers are only allowed to bring 200 ciggies into the UK.
Does this rule apply to Netherlands, German, French passengers etc or only to UK pax.
If it is just for UK I would have thought it contravened EU law, anybody care to enlighten me?

The prices in spain vary widely depending on the brand you smoke.
It's worth buying a few packs of cheap ones and seeing which you like.
I usually go for Coronas Ultra Lights (make sure you get the blonde tobacco) or JPS silver (1.25 euro IIRC).A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

In reply to PaulGeary, if you will look back at my first post you will see that I drew attention to the fact that customs still impose a 200 limit on cigarettes from the Czech Republic. It is my understanding that this is because cigs are ridiculously cheap there compared to UK prices, ie around 600Kr which is about £15 for 200. The notices at the airport in Prague obviously apply only to flights going to the UK. You are probably right in saying it contravenes some EU rule but who is going to challenge it?0

Just because the cigarettes are ridiculously cheap there I don't understand how they can change the laws! I think if I was bringing in ciggies from Prague and they were confiscated then I'd challenge it. Worth seeing what would happen in a courtroom. My feeling is they'd back down and it wouldn't get that far! They can't twist and bend laws to suit themselves regardless of prices paid for goods.0

Even then, £15 isn't even ridiculously cheap - only about a month ago in Greece, UK brands were around £19, decent local ones £15, and branded cheapies (thanks but no thanks) were less than a tenner...0

When I was in Greece (Kavos) last year there was one shop selling "Next" cigarettes (must have been old stock) at 80 cents per 20 (8 euros per 200) - they were 1.50 euros everywhere else but I was well impressed with my 50p a pack cigs. This was compared to B&H at 28 euros ish per 200.
Of course it's cheaper not to smoke at all.....#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET
