    Hi

Yep, as several have mentioned, obviously there's nothing we can do about people giving wrong or inaccurate advice

    Andrea :)

I agree Andrea that MSE towers can;t do anything...however hopefully the experienced Stalwarts will spot the inaccurate advice and correct it, as happens now.

My concern however is that if we continue to lose the experienced stalwarts and rely more on the inexperienced ones, then dispensing of inaccurate advice is going to be an increasing issue....... and ultimately it is the newbie poster wanting help who would suffer, particularly if the enquiry concerns proceedings with bailiffs, CCJ's, DCA's, etc...

Whilst I realise that the DFW board is "no substitute for seeking professional advice", it would be unfortunate if, as the dynamics evolve, MSE found itself having to adopt this as a routine defence against increasing numbers of complaints (human nature being as it is ;)).........with associated use of precious resource time...and that the DFW board became restricted to providing emotional support only......

The word troll needs filtering :D may be, problem solved surely?

    :rotfl::rotfl:

There is an eloquently worded post about Trolls for DFW newbies written by pania last year after some particularly vicious attacks. This has been turned into a thread and a group of us keep it "bumped" up to first page on the DFW board each day and it is also now on the Bankruptcy board.

...the filter would have a field day :rotfl::rotfl:

Edit: humour aside, the definition of a Troll in panias post is worth noting..especially use of the word "deliberately"

It's a shame however that the word Troll appears to have lost it's original definition and is now being thoughtlessly directed at long term stalwarts by people who clearly don;t understand the meaning of the word and can't be bothered/lack the experience to write a thoughtful reply instead.

If that has been happening, I must have missed it.

But I haven't have been able to be on the boards as much recently, so............

My point was simple - we don't need a definition of a troll, it's the team that needs to define and decide, actually that post on trolls isn't really needed, could have been a warm welcome with useful links and just a signboard to the abuse team. Bad marketing, bad publicity. But it's only an opinion based on the principle of keeping it simple.

But ultimately more BGs won't help to be honest :) All the users need to do is click the wonderful little "report" button on posts where there is as Andrea puts it: "unfriendlyness". BGs very rarely intervene in threads that get really personal - yes occassionally we will lock them until abuse can get to them or have had a chance to review them, remove the ones that need removing, and then re-open it. But for a BG this is really a VERY last option to stop an all out fight...

so please - carry on reporting the posts and offer support and help to newbies :)

    I think it is

DFW is probably the board that Trolls can do the most damage on, alot of newbies come on here in the depths of despair and suicidal,

When I joined I was in despair if a troll had posted first then I would have given up totally
some nice, good people responded, and I'm still here:A:j

The BG's on DFW are brilliant :T:T:T, but maybe you should work shifts:p
Abuse Team :T:T:T any problems sorted out very very quickly:D

The main problem is that the DFW Community is and has split, and today it's been split further:cry:, the moving of diary's not only moved the diaries but the people that posted and started them, and now the challanges:rolleyes:

Have to admit I was sad to see the challenges and other regular threads such as giving up alcohol/smoking etc moved this morning.....there is now even less encouragement for many of the long term regulars to visit the main Board.

They are still posting (albeit less frequently and there are fewer to respond to the increasing numbers of new threads) and splitting the Board has contributed to the problem...

However, surely we should be trying to encourage more of them back onto the main board. And even if we succeed, just how long will they stick around if they start getting called a Troll by someone who doesn;t know the true meaning of the word or being reported to abuse simply because someone with less experience disagrees with their opinion? Yes the post can be reported...but by then the damage has been done and another stalwart disappears.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I understand that DFW Board needs to keep evolving as the site grows to ensure we continue to offer a newbie-friendly situation, perhaps it is time now to factor in a "Save our Stalwarts" consideration.........before there's none left posting on the main Board at all.....:(
