Both Blackberry and iPhone use proprietory operating system.

For most flexibility, consider open source phones like Android or Symbian based.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
  • The best thing about the iphone is that its a excellent all-rounder...its that good that i do most of my internet surfing on it ;) And once you've jailbreaked it, you can add pretty much whatever you want on it putting it on a par with Android. Here are some screen dumps from my 3gs which i posted on another thread.

The iPhone, well, just as sexy as a phone can be, does everything beautifully, with all Apple's typical design greatness, but sadly can't multi-task, so it's one thing at a time only.

I wasn't aware it couldn't multitask. . .So you can't run say IM, Skype, browser and GPS simultaneously? What a disappointment/flaw!

You CAN multi task on iphone...after you've jailbreaked it. Search for an app called "backgrounder" on Cydia.

Dummies question. . .does jailbreaking void all warranties/support?

Officially, yes jailbreaking does invalidate your warranty ( i think) BUT if you ever have to send your iphone back to Apple for repair, all you do is a software reset on your phone to unjailbreak it and no one will ever know you jailbreaked it:p

Presuming the phone isn't sufficiently knackered not to be able to do that?

Do you lose any settings/apps if you reset?

If the OP doesn't know much about phones, they shouldn't waste their money on either a Blackberry or iPhone or any smartphone. Buy a nice cheap simple Nokia that will fulfill your needs instead of paying for features you'll never use!

In most cases if the iphone is faulty, it will still allow you to reset the software on it. As for Apps, once you buy an iTunes app, its yours forever and will be stored in Itunes along with other free/paid for apps so you just sync again to re-upload everything to your iphone if you get a new phone. As for Cydia store apps (home of jailbroken apps) there is a free Cydia app called "AptBackup" which backs up all your Cydia apps and a single click will restore all your Cydia apps on your new iphone!
