Hi,

(I am sorry if this has been posted before...I couldn't find it)

My contract is due to finish soon...unfortunately I dont really know much about phones, but my family/friends have told me the best phones are either the blackberry/iphone.

Can anyone please advise which one to buy? Im wanting an 18 mth contract, maybe £25-30 a month. (I went around some shops today...Orange offered me the Blackberry curve 8900 I think, 400mins, 300text for £27.00). I have read soooo many reviews and just can't decide! They do sound very similar!

Thank you!

  • Depends what you want to do with it.

Blackberry is very good for mobile email. iPhone is very good for mobile internet.

Neither is particularly brilliant at being a phone ;)

Interested to know why you think that?

To the OP, I have both....The 8900 is great email, which is where BB's excel, in that they push it to you instantly, only problem is, the formatting of them isn't great if it's anything more than a basic text email, HTML emails are hit and miss.

For multi-tasking, if you are into instant messengers, you can have several open at the same time, it also has GPS, so you can use Google Maps, a reasonable media player, and unique to BB, is BB messenger, where you can communicate with any other BB user free of charge, once you know their pin number, very useful if you are abroad a lot, as the way BB compress their data, means it is very cheap to use abroad, my wife just used it for a week in the US, talking to me constantly, and racked up 80p of roaming data charges!

The iPhone, well, just as sexy as a phone can be, does everything beautifully, with all Apple's typical design greatness, but sadly can't multi-task, so it's one thing at a time only. Beats the BB handsdown for HTML e-mail, and likewise is 100 times better for browsing. Whether you can live with a virtual keyboard instead of a physical one, is down to you. Also having a single device for media, ie your ipod with you everywhere you go may be a bonus. On any iPhone contract you get free wi-fi, so if you spent time at Mc D's, Starbucks and the like you can log on and surf at decent speeds, and if you plan on using the camera, go for the 3GS with the slightly improved 3mp.

    HTH some

Ive got both, and I would never buy a blackberry again, i personally find it v hard to use. It isnt "fun" like the iphone and its loads of apps :D

The downer of my iphone is i have the older one with no video camera on it . Otherwise I cant fualt it and even having it 6months I stilll marvel at it.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Bear in mind if you're not that worried about e-mails or Internet browsing, there are dozens of much cheaper phones available besides these two that do everything you'd expect of a good phone.

I got my Iphone 3Gs in July from O2 for £87 and a £35 per month contract. Having had it since then I'd say I would gladly pay the £440 to buy it outright, it's simply stunning.
A problem shared is a problem multiplied. :o
  • I have the iphone and it`s fine as a phone! As a mini laptop it`s amazing and the ipod part if it is great too. I think it`s a real good allrounder. I have the 3G and it`s never far from my hands. I have friends with blackberry who use it mostly for work and emails and it good for what they need it for.

My Iphone is my phone, sat nav, web browser, music centre, games console, video player, email control, camera and video camera and each of these functions are excellent, apps and downloads are at your fingertips. The games graphics are stunning, try Real Racer or Slotz, Resident Evil, Hidden Mysteries and they're as cheap as chips to download. I use my Iphone more than my laptop now.

    :p

  • I don't think anyone can tell you which is better, it's all down to personal preference. I have a Blackberry Bold and it's got to be the best phone i've had to date, does everything I need it to and more.

Having used the iPhone I could not get used to the virtual keyboard, which is the main reason I went for a BB.

Go into the shop have a play with them both and get the one you feel would benefit you the most.

P.S that deal isn't so good! I'm with Orange and i've got 400 mins, unlimited texts and Blackberry internet service for £25 a month on a 18 month contract.
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.
