We hope to save up to take halfpint to canada in the summer 2010 to meet some family. I did originally want to take it to ethiopia (Addis) summer 2010 coz it is half ethiopian but having discussed it with family members and done some research it wont have sufficient innoculations and immune system to manage and if it does get sick helthcare is good in places but a bit sporadic so we need to wait untill it is over 1.
I remember you Alibobsy - welcome back - sticky bean vibes
Glad you got yourself and baby checked always
OH would love to go to canada, can you recommend anywhere?

I can't imagine leaving any of mine when they were little and only left them with their gran overnight when they were older. For myself and OH we wouldn't consider going away for a longer period without them (although that may change when they are teenagers lol).
Until the little one is in your arms you won't know how you will feel, also have you decided about feeding? If you try and enjoy breastfeeding would you stop to go on a holiday? You can express and freeze some to be used whilst you are away, but it has to be planned ahead.
I breastfed them all till over 12 months both the girls till over 2, but was lucky we could manage to live off OH's wage by the time I had the girls.(only just at some points, used OS tips and lived off £50 a week for all our food and groceries for a while-paid for nappies/wipes with bags of coppers at times).
I think I would wait until after bean is born to decide and you can see what you feel like then.
good luck

I havent been but my hubbys family live in ontario and they say it is lovely. All the family are spread all over the world so they all try to meet up in either canada, america or ethiopia once a year. They dont all make it every year but it does help everyone keep in touch0

Hope all mums & bumps are doing well.
Haven't had chance to log on for a while so am trying to catch up on what's been happening.
Can I get some advice on antenatal classes.
I am at 24 weeks now and have been trying for some time to find out about possible antenatal classes in my area - North Wiltshire.
The local hospital - Swindon GWH have cancelled all antenatal classes due to swine flu. The midwife told me this was dictated by the government however I've been trying to find any information on this and also whether all the other hospitals are also stopping all antenatal classes. There seems to be zero communication aside from a small sign in the womens health department at the hospital with no alternatives given.
I don't see why they can't be run somewhere outside the hospital rather than just just canning them completely. When I asked the midwife, she was almost gleeful they they had been stopped as the midwifes were so sick of having to relay the same information again and again!
I have spoken to a few people about NCT classes however I'm reluctant as they seem to give very biased information rather than letting you make your own choices.
Does anyone know if other hospitals are still running sessions. Particularly anyone around Chippenham, Oxford etc that is commutable from Swindon.
It seems their opinion is that sending a leaflet out towards the end of your pregnancy is a suitable substitute to getting to know all your options about pain relief and making an informed choice ahead of time, undertanding all the options for your birth plan, how to know when you should go to the hospital when labour starts and also helps you build networks with other mums to be in your area.
The whole thing doesn't seem to be very well thought out.0 -
