There are also some great student places which arent that far away and may be less xmas party night. Think up Newington, there is Native state which I like and many smaller pubs like pear tree etc.
For lots of guest houses, try Minto Street which is about a five min bus journey or 15 min walk from waverly.
German market is def worth a wander, and the sarnies and mulled wine are fab but is quite expensive.
I could put up a couple of people on my lounge floor...... as long as you promise not to kill me during the night

Jekyl and Hyde is on Hanover Street down the other side of George Street towards Queen Street, not been in there for years but pass it in the car quite frequently!!
