Have any other Edinburghers had thoughts about where we could meet up? If there is going to be a load of us, especially as it's Christmas, we might want to think of somewhere off the obvious track but still easy to find and awesome.

You can really cheap accommodation just off Princes Street if you don't mind sharing with a bunch of backpackers for only £12 at caledonianbackpackers dot net. It will be basic though.
There is also a new Travel Lodge (called Haymarket) but is very close to Princes Street on West Maitland Street.
For those looking to push the boat out in the same area as the above two (well a stones throw) is the Caledonian Hotel.0 -

These meets are a good laugh., you meet people in the similar situation
so straight out of the window goes the "how much" type of crap:j
the nerves go in about a minute , maybe 2 if your very nervous
