  • Goodness me. Shall I explain irony to you?

The point was, if he hadn't got his fogs on.......... he wouldn't have got tickets for them being on, and being defective.

i understand irony qiute well and i see the funny side to your tale, but the reason behind your friend making the decision to dish out a ticket based on them think the guy was a regular offender just because one had blown is a bit poor.

imagine the embaressment the officer would feel if he saw a car turning or indicating that is fitted with these new style turning lights where only one fog light comes on for the duration of the turn when the headlights are on.
so therefore he must use them all the time.

all im saying is its hardly a good basis to hand out a ticket. if both fog lights were working would he just have issued a warning?

I'm sorry I don't understand this bit. I didn't mention anyone being a regular offender. Can you explain? Or punctuate?

Why imagine the embarrassment? That didn't happen. If they were turning lights he wouldn't be getting a ticket for fog lights.

The basis for the ticket is the exact same basis for this thread. Members of the public and motoring orginisations keep complaining to the Police regarding the increased numbers of people driving with fogs on. Simple.
if both fog lights were working would he just have issued a warning?

Again, that didn't happen. He'd probably just written out the one ticket.

Are you a bit moody today?

    i dont mean indicators.
turning lights can be fog lights, only one fog light comes on when a vehicle is turning,to illuminate the direction in which the vehicle will turn. keep an eye out for it on newer vehicles, not all have it.

  • I didn't mention indicators either.

The road traffic act and SVA states that the lights you're refering to are "a seperate headlight" It may look like a fog light comming on but, by definition, and the fact it would make them contrary to the road vehicle lighting regulations 1989 and therfore unable to pass a type approval test for new cars and therfore unable to be sold in the UK means they're not.
  • call it what you like, the same bulb that operates the type approved fog light is the same bulb that operates the type approved turning light, thats the point i was trying to make.

  • No it isn't. As it wouldn't pass type approval if it did. How can something which means your fog lights come on when it's illegal for them to do so pass type approval?

    For example;

the audi a8 like some american cars is built into the headlight unit.

I've got no choice with my car. When I turn corners with my dipped headlights on, one foglight will turn on depending on which direction I'm turning. I can't seem to turn it off either. So please don't heckle when you see me on the road at night. Blame Fiat, not me :(.
