Whats with the current trend of using side lights and front fogs. Seems like every other car these days is doing it? I think its the South London badge of honour.

I think you'll find it is illegal to use foglights when visibility is not poor.0
-
And it is against the law.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Yeah, it is against the law to use Front Fogs when not needed.
Side lights probably come on when people set their lights to Auto. I do, I they are on most of the time.
There is a debate going on at the moment with regards to benefits (or not) of Daytime running lights. Lots of info here: -

All cars will have daytime running lights soon as its some EU bollox.
Also by 2010 all new cars are meant to have tyre pressure sensors too!
As for daytime running lights they only look nice in LED form on stuff like Audi R8's etc...0 -
Some vehicles such as Mercedes use the fog lights as illumination assistance lights and as cornering lights - which is why you see a lot of Mercs with one fog light on when turning in the dark. The man without a signature.0
-
couple of reasons for this
1 - people think its cool
2 - On some cars there is no light on the dash board for the front fog light, so people dozy people don’t know
3 - Some cars turn off the fog lights when you turn the lights off, and then the fog lights don’t turn back on when you turn the lights on
Ultimately it boils down to people being morons of varying degrees.0 -
I dont use front fogs, however ive never been 'blinded' by them as some people say , how can you? they point to the floor, xenon lights cause more bother by being blinded!
I couldnt care less if people drive with front fogs on, what is dangerous is when the other car on the opposite side of the road will put there main beam on to blind the other driver for having fogs on :rolleyes:0
