I can't tell you how good it feels to go to the bank and press 'Balance' and not have to work out -XXXX means I have XXX and all the stress that causes - it never works out!
The basic bank accounts have no overdraft, so you can't borrow anymore and get into trouble. This is the first recommendation CCCS made me in regards to improving my position, to split debt from money to ensure I wasn't getting confused or bogged down.
I believe on the basic bank accounts, no credit check is done either as you are literally using a cash account with no fascilities. I won't be setting up any standing orders or direct debits, it will literally hold my personal money to organise and be aware of how much I have without living day to day in the overdraft.
Did the DF mow the lawn yesterday for you yesterday?0 -
Thought I'd post my plans for the weekend.
This afternoon, as soon as I finish work, I'm meeting my friend and we're going for a meal out. Not very MSE but it's not very often I go out and she goe's on holiday tomorrow so I'm going to let this one slip.If she could come round mine for food she would, but thats not possible tonight. Never mind. We have also got some DVD's to watch that were a bargain find.
:T
Saturday DF's parents are coming to fix our kitchen tap (very MSE not getting a handyman- he's very useful bless him), and I am going to make a start on painting our garden fence, which we got at the end of may, while DF does more gardening. Also planning to declutter some of the house (most likely the bedroom) and do our meal plan for the week (both as per earlier to do list). Also watch the Xfactor.Probably also play on the Xbox on CO-Op lots and lots and yet more DVD's (We love our films!).
Sunday not decided on anything yet. Probably a lazy day. He did mow the lawn!
And he plans to do some weeding this evening. Well on his way - think he's got the bug! Or like me just wants to get it out the way and over and done with
.
Another thing I've thought about is Cash Only for Personal Expenses/Food etc. Either this or the seperate bank accounts as you suggested. Not sure how comfortable I am carrying cash around though.Proud to be dealing with my debts one step at a time.Weight Loss Progress - 0 out of 56lbsWBDF's 'Weight Loss Challenge to Christmas 2009' Progress - 0 out of 21lbsPart of the DFW Addicts '''Blankie Club'' - Working my way to VEGAS babyOctober NSD's 0/100 -
I think everyone is different on the cash front, I tried drawing out cash and having it as my weekly budget, but it didn't work for me as I buy some things (groceries etc) online quite often as I don't drive, so it didn't quite make sense for me to do it that way - but I bet this method works perfectly for a lot of people.
Trial and error to find what works best for you I guess0 -
Yeah. Will have an indepth think about it this weekend.
Quite looking forward to the weekend now. Half way through my working day! Lunch in a moment so Yay.

I'm really looking forward to the weekend too - not long now! :T
I think I'm going to enjoy non spending weekends as much as weekends where I spent. Will be nice to see how much more money we can plough into debts instead of weekend entertainment / food / wastage. :j
Good news on the mowing & weeding - what a good DF! Kudos on the kitchen tap resolve too.0 -
I dont like carrying cash around, it would be just my luck that id start to take out cash for my food shopping for example and get mugged lol (not laughing at anyone who has been mugged but i mean would be my luck !)
Another account for just a certain thing like food shopping or petrol or whatever would be good though then you know what exactly you have in the other account.
I have a mortgage account so that i know that I can always always pay this, also dont have a card for this account so cant take money out unless i do it online.0 -
I've been only using cash this month, its made me much more aware of what I am spending, when I put things on my debit card I tend to get unecessary extras as it doesn't seem 'real money' but when I look in my purse and see I've got £2 I know I can't go shopping for anything but the essentials!!!
I withdraw £40 on a wednesday (after the wftc goes in) and OH gives me £60 on a friday (he saves £15 a week of his wages - uses it for fishing/games and when he's saved a load of money we've done things like bought our wardrobes), this £100 per week is for elec, gas, petrol, food and anything else!!
Do whatever's best for you!
