The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 5

This thread is a great place. Everyone comes on here for their own reasons. However if you spend any time at all reading this thread you will see that whilst there are many people cutting down for financial reasons there are also people here who are having or have had a real struggle with alcohol addiction.
I remember a similar 'row' kicking off when I joined this thread about a year ago. Someone mentioned the word alcoholic and people started throwing their dummies out of the pram. There are alcoholics on this thread and I think it is niave to think otherwise. However there are also people who are here to cut back their drinking to enable them to save a few bob. Of those people there are probably some in denial of the cost of their drinking......like I was for many months.
Personally I find the posts of the people who have 'been there' and come out of the other side far more enlightening and helpful than some of the more lioghthearted posts. Others will prefer the lighthearted to the deep.
So in a nutshell...this thread is different things to different people and we should all respect everyones differences....remembering the fact that we are all here for a common reason, because we want to reduce or stop our consumption of the legal drug that is alcohol.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -

Fay we're getting married next month, 25th, I've been looking on eb*y most of the afternoon and it's sent me do-lally :rotfl:
I'm used to wearing Doc Martens and jeans or pj's when I'm not in work (we have a uniform for that) and we never go out anywhere so I never have the need to "dress up".
I think I'm just going to get like a knee length evening dress or something, I'd really prefer something more gothic but OH would probably look at me gone off :rotfl:I should grow up a bit I suppose since I'm hardly 18 any more...goes off to cry.Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000 -

Thank you PBT, I've been reading all day with interest and been unable to post as I've not been able to work out my new phone
I am so saddened to read that some people have been upset today over the 'debate', this especially saddens me as I was also around for the last time this happened and we lost some of our very dear friends that decided to no longer postI don't want that happening again.
Why we post on the thread is really irrelevant in my book, as it's not reality, it's somewhere to escape to, to chat to likeminded (:D) people that you can 100% trust (in a virtual world) and know that there is somewhere you can get support when you need it, any time of the day or night. This thread alone is unlikely to 'cure' an alcoholic (I know there is no cure by the way, just didn't know how to put it...) but it's the light hearted-ness that I look forward to. And as PBT has said, I also enjoy the deeper posts just as much as this helps to keep me in check. This being said I AM an alcoholic so have a different take on things to most of you.
For the record, I understand everything that GC has said and 100% agree with it, and I'm not going to apologise for that either
Off me soap box now...

Jo hunny, so glad you have posted my friend :A I value what you say along with many others on this thread. For me personally it is Graeme's posts that make me stop and think the most. It is reading his posts that makes me realise that I have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, I do not consider myself to be an alcoholic, but I do realise that drinking unchecked is a cause for concern.
I also enjoy the times when we have light hearted banter, I think it depends how your mood is at the time on how you react to posts. I know for me only that had I not joined this thread then I would probably not addressed my drinking.
I value the support that I have on here, in return I try and give support back too. Graeme is in my book, a lovely bloke, what he says sometimes is not nice to hear, though very true. (In my opinion) I have been at different stages, sometimes I have my ear muffs on and sometimes like now they are off. (Hope that makes some sense)
Sorry for the ramble
Maman thankyou for your post (()) xxxxxxxxxxxxx Pbt thankyou for your post too and for the very thought provoking line: "THE LEGAL DRUG THAT IS ALCOHOL" :A (()) KJ I have very much enjoyed reading your posts today thankyou :A (()) xxxxxxxxxxxx CW thankyou for your post too (()) xxxxxxxxxxx Marru hugs hunny (()) xxxxxxxxxxxx
Oh and before I go, I have diced the following:
Red, green, yellow peppers.
Red onions, mushrooms, cucumber, swede, parsnips, carrots, potatoes.
Dragon fruit, melon, pineapple, apricots, kiwi fruit.
In fact I have been in there for bloody hoursbut I am so going to be healthier.
I have thought to myself as I was dicing for the one thousandth time, that if I were drinking wine I would not have stood and done all of this. As I have said before, drinking makes you rush things and also put off things too.
So Budgies tip for staying af: buy a nicer/dicer. You can have hours of fun :rotfl:My fridge looks like a commercial for YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT, after Ms Mckeith has done her diet make overThough Mr Budgie is horrified to have no chocolate biscuits
Oh and Ms Honey B, 17 for Budgie please hun, hugs and take care (()) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxCherish the ones you love and travel back on the road that brings you home
