I personally think that it is this light hearted approach , often combined with a bit of banter and the occasional joke that works well for a lot of people on here.
I'm not sure the big stick approach works, with most of the people here, unless of course Mollypolly is waving it:D

Quite agree.

That will be the case for some of us, but not all of us.
Sometimes excessive alcohol consumption will have a negative effect on health. Not always (like your dad), but it is by no means abnormal.
That negative effect is what happened to my father. He died of brain damage caused by cirrhosis of the liver. He remained in complete denial about his longstanding alcohol problem until his premature death (despite being a doctor). Reading this thread today has brought all this back to me, which is upsetting so I'm bowing out for the moment.0 -

Please don't go too far away.
This happened a few months ago with other posters and it's a shame. This should be a place for all to come and not feel upset or pressurred.
Don't stay away too long.Everyone counts on here.
Take care of YOU

I hope it isn't big stick, as I don't feel I am beating anyone.
I am not singling anyone out either
I don't disagree with the substance of what you say most of the time GC, but I think perhaps it's just the way you say things sometimes seems to lack a little bit of emotional intelligence if you don't mind me saying so. There will be people who will feel, regardless of what you say re generalisations, that you are referring to them. And there will be others that feel offended on their behalf, regardless of the fact that that you haven't singled anybody out. Anyway, just my tuppence-worth. Back to lurkdom...

Statistically speaking, this is the bit I doubted, and hence my comments.
I have absolutely no doubt that it effects the families of all people on here in some way, even if it is just financially. However, I feel that most people on here are heading in the right direction and will suffer no long term ill effects if they continue to go in the direction that they are. You only have to look at the increased number of AF days that people are achieving now to realize that there lives must be getting better week by week.
I just do not believe that alcohol will kill many of the people on this thread.
ETA. unless of course you meant that it will effect the life of many people in which case I apologise.Embrace your inner Hillbilly

I'm with HB - I'm keeping quiet too!
HB don't you have a nice juice to try before you decide if you really want the wine?
Also had a touch of duck 'flu so that's 4 for me HB still don't get an Ewok tho'!
had to stop reading early last night - that pizza looked lush:D! About as lush as the Chrimbo mince pies, so got very hungry and didn't have anything nice in.
Today has been very lazy and off quizzing tonight so will have a cider or two - hopefully we will do better this week as the last couple we have crashed and burned:rotfl:!
Anyway glad things seem to be going OK ie. no more mice, extension of studies (even if the supervisors are a**holes) and stuff!
Tomorrow is blue Monday - apparently the day we all feel lowest - oh well things can only get better
take care all
