I've now googled alcohol poisoning and had no idea of the symptoms to look out for. It could happen to any of us at anytime, as it also depends on what you've eaten, what medication you might be on as well as height, weight etc.
It says that giving coffee and letting them sleep it off is the wrong thing to do. Sips of water and sitting up keeping them awake is what you need to do.

This was the bit that I found surprising:
Someone’s Blood Alcohol Concentration continues to rise even after they’ve stopped drinking, as alcohol in the digestive system will continue to be absorbed into the bloodstream. This means you should never leave someone to ‘sleep it off’, as their condition could still be getting worse.DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Also scary as I've always worked out how many units I've had and when I'm safe to drive again...but have always done it from the last drink..but then if its still being absorbed presumably it takes longer (iykwim???)
