well done you!!
Anyway you'll all be cross with me as I am on the naughty step - went out for a meal last night and accepted the complimentary wine offered (and OH's) then ended up in the supermarket after meal to get bargains and a bottle of wine.
Stupidly having been great - (even if I say so myself) I did the stupid OH ONE WON'T HURT will it - of course it will you moron Fay!!!!
Drank the whole thing - in about 2 hours slumped on sofa OH had to wake me up to get me to bed - what a ruination of an evening. Felt crappy today and angry with myself - I know I am allergic to this stuff so why on earth do I actually do the logic of 'OK one drink won't hurt'.
Anyway thats me - hope you're all good - catch up now and pop back in a mo
Some of us it seems *NEVER* learn.
Anway - onwards today
Sounds like my drinking. I would go out not wanting to drink, then tell myself that I would have one drink and only one drink. Then I would find myself with another in my hand. And so on.
I too have a reaction when alcohol is in my system. I react by craving more alcohol (mostly subconsciously) and thus I have more.
If I was allergic to pizza, I'd make sure I didn't eat it. If I was allergic to Coronation St, I wouldn't watch it. However, with alcohol, I would drink, and I sometimes knew it was going to get me in trouble, but I did it anyway. That to me is my alcoholism. I kept repeating the same scenarios again and again (i.e. drinking) hoping for a different response (the response being moderation).
This is why I need help from others to stop drinking (I was good at stopping, but rubbish at staying stopped) and I also needed to change myself so I wouldn't want to drink.
I fought alcohol for years, and always lost. It was only when I accepted I was alcoholic, admitted I was powerless and my life was unmanageable, that I could stopped wanting to drink.
All this is available to every person on this thread if they want it enough. Half measures are not enough (just like our drinking!!)
If you don't do anything about this, it will only get worse over time. Alcoholism is a progressive disease. It can progress slowly, but the gradual direction is downhill. Most street drinkers did not start off drinking 2 bottles of vodka a day. Most people on this thread would never have said 10 years ago that they had problems with alcohol, and were drinking a bottle of wine a night. They wouldn't have believed it.0 -
Hey just caught up thank you for all the lovely hello's and welcome backs means loads
Been thinking of the phrase that always gets me on track when I have been a balloon
Constant vigilence - I let my guard down. Will try harder!
Hope those out and about are OK xx
Its icy here with not alot of snow but tis cold. Worse than a skating rink on the pavements and roads (is salt all of a sudden in short supply?)
Or you could try a different method - don't try harder, try smarter.0 -

I lived in SW13 for almost 7 years. Glad to be here in the quiet of countryside

I'd love to be one of those people who have a civilised glass of wine with their dinner, the kind that actually use wine stoppers  But I and it seems so many other people on here, know one is just never enough.
Good Luck.
Me too - I wish I could moderate but I crossed that line long ago to all or nothing. It was inevitable - I am alcoholic and my drinking wad alcoholic drinking. That's why my recovery and not drinking must be all or nothing. As Fay says, constant vigilance.
There will be people going out in this horrid weather, risking their lives to get alcohol. That sounds dramatic but it is true. The vast majority will be ok, but I am sure a few will come a cropper.
I am glad I don't have to go out in this to get booze.0 -
I'd like to declare another AF day so that's 2 now please.
The snow is coming down thick here now. Just discovered the two front
windows open in the car and a pile of snow on both front seats!
Some sort of electrical fault - they open mysteriously by themselves!
Anyway, goodnight and good luck to all.

Popping in to declare today Day 3/16 and yesterday was a 3 unit evening which is very measured by my previous standards. No room for complacency though. But I feel good about this alternate day plan at the moment.
Honeybear, I hope you can fight off the scorer's malady; I seem to remember other people being afflicted with this one last year.
BB, wow, that's such a positive attitude, I feel humbled. I have never been that positive if my feet are damp, let alone squelching!
Big flakes here in London now. Stay safe and warm everyone.Sleep well.0
