Alcoholism chips away at the confidence, and after a while one belives they cannot manage without alcohol
We judge ourselves on our actions, so we have to prove to ourselves that we can be AF. If we cannot be AF, then we feel even more hopeless
Try another approach - the one you are currently taking is not working as welll as you want it to
I found with me and my alcoholism, I needed to change me and my thinking before I could successfully put down the drink.
That's what many alcoholics need to do - change themselves and then they no longer WANT or NEED to drink
However, to change yourslef one has to want it enough. We alcoholics are resistant to any change that threatens our drinking
Whatever you decide you want to do in the future, make the decision now (don't wait) and be honedt with yourself
Good luck
Thanks GC. Christmas is a difficult time for me for a myriad of reasons. I found out the letter to the local alcohol service on my behalf wasn't sent through so I still haven't heard from them. It must have been 2 months ago that my GP was supposed to refer me. I think I will have to go and see if they can help me once I finally hear from them!
Hope everyone else is alright. :A Sorry about the mice Honey bear!:eek:HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

Hello Everyone
I would like to thank you all for making me feel welcome.
I am going to have to be one of those to give up altogether because I know that once the first drop passes my lips I won't be able to stop.
I,M SAD that was a lovely post and I too feel that every weekend I am depriving my children of spending time with them.
Too bad about the mice HoneyBeardid you find out where they are coming from? Even the slightest gap and they will be in unfortunately.

Hi kids
There is no sign of the mice nesting, gnawing at any cables/boxes/foodstuffs etc. There were some droppings (sorry if you're eating) round the kitchen/lounge but I've cleaned pretty much everywhere now. I can't properly seal up the couple of gaps they may have come through but I have put masking tape over them as a mini deterent (sp?)
I'm waiting to hear from the council about what, if anything, thay can do. I believe the compnay that do all the maintenance round here have some rodent poison boxes out in the bushes so I'll call them too this week just to advise & see what they say.
Am starting to relax just a little now I now I've cleaned, disinfected, scrubbed etc all the places that needed it.
Thanks for all the nice messages tho, you guys are helping me through it@ LBM = £15,872.65, now £10,819.82AF Jan = 7/? Feb = 5/14 Mar = 14/20 Apr = 6/14 May = 2/14 June 2/14 July 0/TF Aug 1/TFv Sept 6/TF Oct 4/7"NEVER DOUBT YOUR OWN QUALITY"0 -
"I'm sad", that was a beautiful post. Think you should change your name though
You're right, it really is the simple things in life that matter... and the most powerful is to keep our relationships as honest as possible. If others choose to be dishonest, that's their problem. Just keep our side of the street clean and our heads won't go mad on us.
I'm now three years without alcohol. I read the first alcohol free thread on MSE some months - possibly more than a year - before I joined the site and certainly before I stopped drinking. I wasn't some drunken bum, I was working full time, was very successful - paid all bills on time, had no debt - yet I was emotionally bankrupt.
The threads helped and still do, but on it's own - for me - each thread wasn't enough... I had to really put in some hard, honest work to stop drinking - to look at myself, my behaviour, my actions and my thinking. I did this with professional help and with the input of AA. It's saved my life. I'm doing well now and know it can be even better as I continue on my alcohol free journey, continuing to use all the support that is out there, irrespective of others opinions.
There is help, take the risk and take the hand of friendship. Have courage, keep things simple, take one day at a time. This is just a suggestion, based on my experience. We each find our own way.0 -
