  • Was AF free last night as I was designated driver but not tonight!
OK, it's an AF thread rule but if you keep posting piccies of Finnish tarts and Mince pies I will have to leave !I looked at the website Marru posted and the first recipe is for Scottish Tablet _ yum (even as I think of it I can feel my teeth dissolve!) I also have a craving for Sherbert dib-dabs! They even appeared in my dream last night! ( along with a pond with fish, snakes, eels and frogs?!).

Anyway - hope everyone is having fun and may have to visit Mr T's for mince pies! - I know they won't be as good as Jo's but .............

Hi all- hope everyone is safe and not too cold. Its freezing here in sunny cornwall.

Am in Hermit mode at the moment as I don't want to be around people in pubs drinking to excess, and thats all my family and friends are doing at the moment-I know people love christmas and quite rightly they have an alcohol blowout, but I can't do that- I know I will never be able to do that again, because it will lead to getting the taste again and for me thats a downward spiral.

Great to hear from everybody-esecially Bis. When I first joined this thread I was a mess, totally alcoholic, lost everything, gibbering wreck, everyone had given up on me as a useless lost cause- but it was posts from people like Bis, GC, Mollyp etc that helped me realised that alcoholics CAN only live without alcohol. Like MP, I always remember Bis's support for 'constant vigilance'- its so true.

I'm going to put christmas flowers on 2 friends graves tomorrow (one was my sons aunty-died 37 14 yrs ago, other is school best friend-died 41 this year) both died due to alcoholism- aunty was so beautiful and vibrant, kind, sensitive, best friend was so funny and lovely and supportive and I miss them both so much. Damn this bloody stuff, it has too much of an impact on peoples lives.

Anyway, everyone on this thread is amazing, self aware and at least trying to get to grips with alcohol. I REALLY REALLY hope everyone has a great christmas, and thankyou all for being the most supportive and nice group of people online.

    Very moving post, Eselt.

It's so easy at this time of year to think - I'll climb back on the wagon in January. Constant vigilance seems to be really needed to avoid slipping back into daily drinking, hangovers, drunken rows with family when it all gets too much etc.

Sort of feel like I've given myself a 'get out of jail free' card to drink whatever for 2 weeks with the promise of stopping again in Jan. Not that I've abused it yet, but it would be sooooooo easy to slip back to daily drinking and then it's going to be a nightmare to stop those bells clanging in January.

Yesterday I tried hot chocololate for the first time since being a kid - yuuuuuuuuuuuum! Very snowy here so going to have a cosy day indoors with hot drinks as treats.

    Anyone up for Sober Sunday?
    xx

Eslet - hugs to you - I'm so sorry to hear about your close friends. I am so glad you come on here and help others as well - your words like many others are very appreciated.

AF last night - sleepy today - much to do. I am designating myself driver over the holidays - Oddly I don't mind it - its the dark deep on my own hours that bother me more.

Wierd to see folks loading up their trollies with booze for the holidays - if I get given any wine I think I am going to do a strict - wine in - wine leaves immediately policy.

We loaded the trolley up with 10 bottles 10p fizzy water and 4 bottles festive cordial!

Will see how we get on.

    Morning to you all.
