Hi all
Blimey Jo !!!! Scary stuff, hope you are all OK, he sounds really unstable, thank goodness your DD isn't still with him.
BB- huge hugs to you and Mr BB. I had CBT on NHS. First session was an intial assessment, they asked me about things like sleeping, appetite, how much I worried, whether I had any phobias etc- it was with someone called a Low Intensity therapist who deals with mild depression and anxiety. They gave me lots of self help stuff to read and some websites to look at. Then they said that I would be referred to a High intensity therapist because they only saw people for a few sessions and they thought I needed more sessions and more traditional 'counselling' as well as CBT. The NHS website was called 'living life to the full', and our local NHS therapy providers are called 'outlook south west' and their website (www.outlooksw.co.uk) has loads of information for patients which you can print off and read- theres CBT workbooks, information packs, fact sheets etc. Some really useful stuff on there and its open access for everyone not just their own patients-take a look, it might give you some idea of what to expect. The first session wasn't as nerve racking as I thought it would be- the therapist was really nice and I soon felt more relaxed. NHS primary care psychological services are all now part of the NHS 'Improving access to psychological therapies' programme (IAPT) and theres info on the NHS web on that too. Hope you are feeling there is light at the end of the tunnel- he will get better with the right medication and therapy, I really feel for you both, being depressed and living with a depressed person is so hard.
Welcome back BHB, and hello and good luck to everyone tonight.0 -
Hi Eselt,
Thanks for that it is really helpful. At least now Mr BB is getting some help so hopefully he will get better. The tablets he is on are making him feel worse at the moment, though I have read that this happens alot until they get into your system.
Its really helpful when you hear what others have been through too. So thankyou, hope you are ok and that the job is going well? Big hugs and take care (()) xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi again BB- just to let you know that when I first started taking AD tablets I felt my symptoms were much worse for the first week or so, I nearly stopped taking them, but my GP said see if you can stick with them for a little while longer and after about 10 days the side effects (including really dry mouth, tummy upsets, panic attacks, being more tearful) seemed to settle and they started having an effect. Get him to have a chat with GP if things don't settle or get worse-there are loads of different AD meds, its just a case of finding one which might help. Take care.0

Hi Fay
Sorry to hear you are thinking about changing your PhD- why not switch to an MPhil, then you still have the option to convert to a PhD later on? Just a thought- you've put so much into it, with a difficult superviser being unhelpful, it would be a pity not to do your research (and the willows of course) justice. Best of luck-you are facing a HUGE decision- take your time and make the best decision for you.
Take care everyone.0
