Still stuck on 11 days after some v.controlled AFD of a glass or 2 but have had enough as made up with cold and virus for last few days too and some personal stuff head bashing thoughts and lots of crying.

40SM - hugs my dear, I know how this feels too.

Fay - you're scoring for Oct then? How about this one to add to your collection? (be warned it goes off on 1 Nov!)

I do drink a load less cos of this thread so thanks guys :)

So do I. There's a kind of "discipline" about it and reporting in has certainly kept me focussed. Without having a target and it being "public" (well, just amongst us friends!), I dont think I would be doing so well so far.

PS honey bear is this the time to confess I think I own a jar of handcream (somewhere?!!?!?) and that's it for me and facial products - normally I don't actually brush my hair.......(I do my teeth honest).

Friend who is dermatologist and works at Johnson & Johnson says she ONLY ever uses Vaseline Hand and Nail Cream on her face! And she looks amazing...! (havent been brave enough to try it myself though - sticking with my favourite Olay Total Effects!).

forgot to say, 21 for me please YM!
I'm so sorry for those who are struggling with sadness and other difficulties at the moment. Caz, definitely been there myself and hope you forgive yourself and look at all the positive stuff you have achieved already (not least all the wonderful posts on here and how those have helped so many of us). No-one said it would be easy so hope you are feeling strong again today. And lucky you, studying!!

  • Hi everyone.

Thanks so so soooooo much for your support and understanding after my post yesterday about me giving in to the booze. Your messages and posts really helped enormously. I don't know what I'd do without this thread! You're all wonderful :A :A :A

So I stay the same on the AFD list, YM.

Anyway, it's now the "sober" light of day and although I still feel bad about relapsing, I also realise that the time between relapses is getting longer and I get my resolve back more quickly each time. I didn't drink anything else and as soon as my OH walked in at 5pm, I confessed, which I found mortally embarassing. She was understanding but disappointed.

She made me get the wine bottle out of the bottom of the bin where I'd hidden it and put it in the recycling - EWWWW, messy! Serves me right for hiding it so well under a load of rotting rubbish, ha ha!

Today is a brand new day and I'm definitely going to be AF.

Hugs to 40SM, thinking of you. I really hope your mum's health improves.

Fay, thanks for volunteering to score for October :A

Anyway, I'd better get some jobs done round the house. Not at uni today - just an occy health appointment later, so I've no excuse not to do chores.

    Hugs
    Caz

  • Morning everyone! Had to tell you all how pleased I am with myself - my first AFD yesterday :D But I musn't get carried away - been there, done that and gone downhill again. This is for the long term this time.

Caz and 40SM I'm thinking of you both and sending positive vibes, hope they reach you xx

Hope to catch up with you all later :hello:

    Take care,
    Clara
    xx
  • Morning everyone. Well done Clara on your first AFD. Me too! I had my first AF day yesterday for at least a year. I know we shouldn't get carried away but I am so pleased. So please YM could you mark my score 1?
For me a big part of drinking alcohol is the routine. I would get in from work take my Edinburgh Crystal whisky glass and pour in the malt (Talisker for preference) then pour in just enough water to release the smoky peaty taste. Later when I started on the wine I would take pleasure in the sound of the cork leaving the bottle. I would pour the red (always red) wine into my wine glass; it has a slim stem and a voluptuously curved bowl(like Beyonce's booty). I now need to establish new rituals so after work i did some shopping: Earl Grey tea, a lemon and a lime, a bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of Roses Lime Cordial, some instant hot chocolate and some mini marshmallows. Yesterday evening's ritual went like this. When i got in I made some tea in a china teapot and drank it from a cup and saucer with a slice of lemon. Later I took a very tall glass and had sparkling water with ice, a splash of lime cordial and a slice of lime. Later still, but still much earlier than I would usually get ready for bed I put my 'jammies' on and had hot chocolate and mini marshmallows. It worked for me, I (hardly) missed the alcohol.
    Have a good day everyone.

  • Welcome to the newbies,Clarabell your story is identical to mine,I was 49 when my husband died.I wish you well and know the support on here will help you enormously.I too know my drinking would have got worse anyway because it had been for many years but after I was widowed it really took off.

Caz glad you are back on track today, you have admitted you are an Alcoholic so we are tailor made for just doing it a Day at a time, hope you have some phone numbers of people in your area who you can call before you pick up a drink. If you want my mobile no. send me a p.m and I will give you mine.

Still suffering with nose problems, had second opinion and new consultant tells me it is a throat problem! been like this for nearly a year now and feel so low.Not dressed yet this morning!

Right am going to get going now, think a swim is a good idea to get the blood moving.

Hope everyone has a good day.:A
