I had never heard that about anti-histamines, I'm probably being stupid but why does that work with insomnia? I might think about getting a memory foam topper and pillows as well, thanks for those tips.:A

types of anti-histamines, drousy and non-drousy but obviously on the non- is displayed on the box. The OTC ones I use are cetirizine (44p for 7 from Wilkos). These are now not recommended to be taken during the day due to the side effect of sleepiness!
I've just copied this: Our advice is that you should not take the older antihistamines which cause sleepiness, unless your doctor prescribes them because you need a tablet to help you sleep.

Obviously you should never rely on these or any otc (over the counter) and should seek advice from your gp. If I've had a heavy drinking session at weekend I tend to take one on a Monday maybe Tuesday but no more - memory foam really does help! Those 7 tablets last me 5 weeks. I actually forgot this week and slept very well; I used to have really bad withdrawal jerks but ok since cut alcohol back.

I do know a few shift workers (hospital staff) who take these when working nights. I gave my mum one when she burnt herself on holiday and she slept through the morning!

It works for me but obviously it's your informed choice so pls dont shout at me!!
